Movie: Chikku Bukku
Cast: Arya, Shriya Saran, Preetika Rao, Anoop Kumar, Santhanam
“Chikku Bukku”, as the name suggests, is a romantic story that begins with Arjun (Arya), a popular DJ in London, chancing upon Anu (Shriya), a student in London, in a train in India which finally blooms into love during the course of their journey. Director Manigandan devotes his debut film to late director Jeeva and clearly one can observe Jeeva's touch in many areas.
Plot
The narrative revolves around the journey of Arjun who desires to halt the auctioning of his ancestral house in Karaikudi, and the story of Anu who comes to visit her father in Madurai. The rest of the story whirls around their experiences and tells you if they accept each other's love or not. However, right through the story you have Sekar's (father Arya) love yarn spun in a muted manner through a diary.
Performances
Arya, for the first time, has donned two roles — as father and son, both of which he has pulled off with finesse. Shriya's affable character and her engaging expressions are enjoyable. Preetika Rao as Meenal has turned in a decent performance. Anoop Kumar as Sekar's friend suits the role of Amaiyappan to a tee. Though Santhanam's comedy track is rib-tickling, it seems to have been included to fill the chasm in the film. Cinematographer R.B Gurudhev provides arrestingly beautiful locales and the difference between the periods is charmingly captured by his lens. The background score by Colonial Cousins is more pleasing than the songs.
Bottomline: “Chikku Bukku” is a wholesome fun-filled journey though in a few places you'll find that you've already watched these scenes in other travel movies.
