But a private mistake makes Bharti an unwed mother of Sooraj (Ajay Devgan) who is adopted by a backward class couple. Meanwhile, Bharti's brother Brij Mohan (Nana Patkar) gets her married into a powerful political family. Bharti is blessed with two sons PrithviPratap (Arjun Rampal), heir to the powerful political legacy and impatient to seize the top position, and Samar Pratap (Ranbir Kapoor),who is completely alien to the game of politics until the day his father is shot by his cousin Virendra Pratap (Manoj Bajpai),who is also in the race to make it to the top.
