This year children’s day has rung in fun for kids. For this one time, let your child get spoilt for movies from all around the world. ‘Yadharthaa’- Tamilnadu Children Film Society has brought wide sub-genres of children films by various globally well-known directors, under its banner for the seventh time in the city. The film fest kick-started with formal inauguration on Monday, at the Setupati Higher Secondary School.

‘Turtle: The incredible journey’ an Austrian make by Nick Stringer and ‘Sammy’s adventures’, the story of a sea turtle who was hatched in 1959 spends the next 50 years traveling the world while it is being changed by global warming, directed by Ben Stassen were the inaugural films.

“We are screening children films in around 120 schools on request apart from schools in neighbouring districts like Sivakasi, Tirunelveli, Sivagangai and Dindigul. A seminar for teachers on ‘Animation as a tool for teaching and learning’ was also conducted to spread knowledge about animation” said, Mr. R.S.Rajan, Festival Director.

The rare collection of movies includes 80 Russian master animation short films, two documentaries on children and human relation and many such internationally acclaimed productions like ‘Kikkerdril’, ‘La Pappilon’, ‘The seven of daran’, ‘Happy feet’ and ‘Crimson wing: Mistry of the Flamingo’.

As part of celebrating ‘Year of bio-diversity 2010’, the festival also organized public screening of nine films on children and environment.

An open air and free fair for all event, kids can enjoy watching ‘Babar: King of the elephants’, directed by Raymond Jafelice today evening. There is also an exclusive workshop for children on ‘Video film making’ tomorrow at 11.00 a.m. in Setupati School. The fest will end with the public screening of ‘Riding alone for thousands of miles’ by ‘Zhang Yimou’ tomorrow.
