Originally released in 2004, the film was presented in just 11 screens around the state, says director A. Balakrishnan.
“People like Kamaraj have become very rare in politics. He laid stress on simplicity and austerity. I feel his life holds a lot of relevance at a time when people get into politics for their own benefits.
So, I digitally remastered the film for the benefit of youngsters. I have also incorporated 20 new scenes into the narrative, which will fortify the film about the evergreen leader,” says the director, who has also produced it.
While the original film featured actors such as Richard Madhuran, Vijayan, Charuhasan and director Mahendran, the latest version features a lengthy role by ace director and actor Samuthirakani. According to the producer, the actor chose to act in the film for free owing to the significance of the subject.
“When the director asked me to be part of such a film, I just couldn’t say no. The importance of a visionary leader like Kamaraj should be known to all and I too learnt a lot about him after watching this film,” Samuthirakani said after a special screening of the film at AVM Studios.
The film, which features the music of maestro Ilaiyaraaja, is expected to get a re-release in April this year in over 100 screens says Balakrishnan. Methods to crowdfund the release are also being looked at, he adds.
