When Mohan Lal’s Drishyam found a large audience in the multiplexes of Chennai, the film’s remake rights were snapped up immediately. While there was speculation that actor Vikram would do the Tamil remake, it has been officially announced that Kamal Haasan will replace Mohan Lal. Jeethu Joseph, the director of the original, will retain the director’s seat.

Drishyam will also be remade in Telugu and Hindi. A member from Wide Angle Creations, which holds the rights in Hindi and Tamil, confirmed that talks are on with Shah Rukh Khan and Ajay Devgn. They are also looking for a director in Hindi. Actor and filmmaker Sri Priya, who recently made the Tamil remake of Female 22 Kottayam , will direct the Telugu version, featuring actor Venkatesh in the lead. While Meena is likely to reprise her role from the original, actor Nadiya will play the cop.
