German actor Elena Kazan advises everybody to engage in some kind of physical activity

They might have to work upon every other aspect to make a place for themselves in Hindi cinema but on one front that foreign actors are never found lacking in, is their fitness level. Russia-born German actor Elena Kazan who features in the just released John Day, is one of them.

For Elena, to be engaged in any kind of physical activity is vital and that seems to be the key factor behind her impeccable fitness levels. “I like to be fit in general and I love exercising but unfortunately we don’t get much time because of travelling,” says Elena, who in spite of a hectic schedule finds time to do salsa, a dance form, she absolutely loves.

She has undergone some hardcore physical training for her next film Prague but it is not an alien concept for her as she is used to being involved with some kind of physical activity. “It’s not about movies alone, I don’t like sitting around, and I love playing badminton,” says Elena, who has earlier been seen in films like Saif Ali Khan’s Agent Vinod and Gandhi to Hitler.

The actor emphasises the fact that the activity shouldn’t be executed mechanically but enjoyed with enthusiasm. “It shouldn’t be a rule to go to the gym for half an hour. Whatever you do should have your heart and mind involved in it so that you look forward to it,” adds Elena, who plays an alcoholic Iranian woman (Tabassum) in John Day, which has been written and directed by Ahishor Solomon. An intense character, she is in an unusual relationship with Gautam, played by Randeep Hooda, in the film.
