Patience pays. After extended negotiations, Ajith Kumar has finalised three films at one go. Ajith's 50th film will be Venkat Prabhu's Mangatha, produced by Dayanidhi Alagiri's Cloud Nine. The second one is for director Vijay Alagappan (remember his debut with Ajith's Kireedom?). There's speculation that Vijay might even produce a film to be directed by Vishnu Vardhan — a remake of a recent Hindi film. The third film that Ajith has agreed to do is for director Vishnu Vardhan, who is almost ready with the script for Billa 2. Industry grapevine has it that Cloud Nine may take up this one too!
Directing and acting in one's own film is a tough task, and one believes that good actors such as Cheran would shine under someone else's direction. Director Cheran, who has been having a dream run with his offerings such as Vettrikodi Kattu, Pandavar Bhoomi, Autograph, Thavamai Thavamirundhu and the recent Pokkisham, will stop with producing and acting in his Dream Theatres' new film Muran. To be directed by Rajjan Madhav, Muran is about contrasting characters that we come across in life. Acting with Cheran is Prasanna, and both will be teamed with newcomers.
Koffi Bar (Telugu), Koffi Shop(Kannada) and Nimidangal(Tamil) — the various names of the trilingual offering from director A.S. Geetha Krishna's banner Blue Fox Cinema. Says Geetha Krishna: “The film has been conceived of as a new-wave commercial middle-of-the-road message-oriented film. The film's protagonist inadvertently gets entangled in a conspiracy hatched by terrorists. This musical thriller is an anti-terrorism film with interesting mind games.”
The film stars Shashank and Biyanka Desai along with Atul Kulkarni.
Director M.A. Remoo Shiva's Kalloori Kalangal is ready for release, and he is a confident man. “My film deals with student life, and has all the action necessary for a fast-paced romance between hero Sukumar and heroine Priyanka Chanda. But, all this is sans violence or a villain. The last hour of the film is the most important — that's when the countdown to the climax begins. And, it features a variety of clocks in progressive scenes, as a metaphor for the passing of time,” says Shiva.
All about love
Yet another film ready for release is Marupadiyum Oru Kaathal by director Vasu Bhaskar. He has dealt with a long-distance love story between Chennai-based hero Anirudh and London-based heroine Josna. Says Vasu, about his creation: “She works as an RJ in a popular FM radio station, and he falls in love with her after hearing her voice. Their love blossoms online, prompting her to come to India in search of him. Will they meet? Will their love succeed?”
