Dr. Rajasekhar, who has done over 50 films in Telugu, a few of which were dubbed in Tamil such as Ithu Thanda Police has launched the sequel to the film — Ithu Thanda Police 2, in Telugu and Tamil. “The original that released 22 years ago ended showing the boy whose parents die being adopted by a politician. In the sequel, he grows up to be an encounter specialist, who takes it upon himself to fight injustice and corruption. “In the first one, my character was larger-than-life while my role in the second will be more realistic,” says the veteran actor. Ironically, he met with an accident on the sets of the first and did so again during the shoot of the sequel. “I hope the comparison extends to the film's success too,” smiles Rajasekhar. The film that also stars Madhurima is directed by his actress-wife Jeevitha.
Even as Vikram's Deiva Thirumagal awaits release, the actor is busy shooting for Karikalan and has been signed on by director Suseenthran for Raja Pattai. Says Vikram, “For long, I have been waiting for a script on the lines of my major commercial successes such as Samy and Dhool. When Suseendran offered me Raja Pattai, I was only too happy. This will be a commercial pot boiler with large doses of humour and romance.” The film's heroine is Deeksha Seth of Wanted (in Telugu) fame. For Suseenthran, this will be a departure from his earlier films, Vennila Kabaddi Kuzhu, Naan Mahan Alla and Azhagarsamiyin Kuthirai.
Warp and weft of life
Director Dhanapal Padmanabhan focuses on the lives of cotton mill workers in his forthcoming Krishnaveni Panjaalai. He has tried to show how these workers do not get much in return for their hard work. Hemachandran is the hero while Nandana plays his love interest. The director has woven a tender love story into the screenplay.
Trouble in the woods
Actor-director Jai Akash's forthcoming film Ayudha Porattam, in which he plays a double role, boasts of an interesting storyline. “I play an Indian weapon expert, who leads a team into the forests in Sri Lanka to test weapons made by our company. There we meet a group of Sri Lankan freedom fighters (the head of the group is also played by Akash) who have been greatly affected by the weapons manufactured by us. They take an instant hatred to us and wage a battle. How we get out of it and sort out the misunderstandings form the rest of the story,” says Akash. Preethi Minnal and Anita Reddy play the female leads.
