The stars seem to be in the ascendant for this actor from God's Own Country, ever since her Mynaa became a runaway hit. Amala Paul's performance in Vettai alongside stalwarts such as Sameera Reddy, Madhavan and Arya didn't go unnoticed. This week sees twin releases for this dusky beauty — Muppozhudhum Un Karpanaigal with Atharva and Kaadhalil Sodhappuvadu Eppadi with Siddharth. Says Amala: “I have come to be accepted as a romantic heroine. While these two films are different from each other, both are love stories and my character in each is significant. On the professional front, I am sure both the films will give a considerable boost to my career.”
Sounds interesting
His experience assisting various music directors in programming and arranging songs has taught Santosh Narayanan one thing — there is nothing like live acoustic sound to add richness to music. He employed this technique while recording the seven songs and the background score for Attakathi. “All the songs have a folk flavour that is typical to Chennai. For instance, Therukoothu in Chennai is different from that of other regions. Gaana is a Chennai-specific form of music. Similarly, the way the musical instruments are played in folk music sounds different in different regions. At times, when the vocals come on, I've noticed there are hardly any instruments in the background, unlike in other regions where there is heavy rhythm. To get the flavour of live performances of such music, I have used live musicians in my compositions for Attakathi ,” says Santosh.
Humorous role
Karthi was gearing up for the release of his Saguni, but the strike in the industry has thrown a spanner in the works. Shooting was over and editing was on when the strike happened. “I suppose it will be over in a few days and post-production work will start,” says Karthi who plays a humorous character in Saguni. And, Santanam joins him to step up the comedy quotient. “I play a villager who comes to the city in this satirical film with a political backdrop. The dialogues are the highlight, as are the lyrics of the songs. Incidentally, music director G. V. Prakash had a blast composing the songs, which were filmed in Poland. Thankfully, they are dream sequences and fit into the story quite well!” says Karthi, who has Pranita for company in Saguni .
Maiden romcom
Director Andrew Louis got his first experience of filmmaking under S. J. Suryah, which has given him the confidence to attempt his maiden venture Leelai . A romantic comedy, Leelai stars Shiv Pandit (of Hindi film Shaitan ) and Mansi Parekh, both of whom have done numerous commercials in Mumbai. “I have given the script a breezy touch, suitable for this romcom set in the IT world. Santanam provides the laughs. Shiv and Mansi are spontaneous in their roles. The storyline and treatment are different from most of the romcoms released so far,” says Andrew. Leelai is scheduled for release in a couple of weeks.
