The picturesque beach at Puthuvype in Kochi, bathed in the late afternoon sunlight, seems to be the perfect background for the scene being shot. A couple, obviously in love, look into each other's eyes, oblivious to the stares of the crowd. The camera captures the visuals from all angles. It is one of the shots for a song sequence in debutant director K. S. Bava's ‘Idiots,' with Asif Ali and Sanusha in the lead.

Young vibe

“It is a fun film, with a young vibe to it. The entire narrative happens in one night. The characters meet at a particular juncture and it starts things rolling. I can't reveal more details but we are giving great importance to the story's treatment and making,” says Bava, who has been assisting director Sangeeth Sivan for a while now.

As the unit gets ready for the next shot, Asif talks about his character in the film, Messi. “He is a football player, who is into some shady deals as well. He comes into the life of a girl under certain peculiar circumstances. The shooting of the film happens mostly at night and I am excited about its scripting style,” says Asif Ali.

He has ‘Cowboy', ‘Ozhimuri', ‘Bachelor Party', ‘Husbands in Goa' and ‘Jawan of Vellimala', all in various stages of completion.

Sanusha, who stole hearts as a child artiste in several films such as ‘Kazhcha', says that nothing much has changed during her transition to a heroine. “Of course, there is more responsibility now and the involvement is more as well when it's a lead role,” says Sanusha.

She plays the lead opposite Dileep in the forthcoming film ‘Mr. Marumakan'.

“In ‘Idiots' there are some suspense elements about my character and even her name is revealed only towards the end of the story. All I can say about my character is that she is kind of naïve; she doesn't think before she talks and is quite impulsive too,” says the actor.

The next shot has been set just a few metres away. Baburaj and up-and-coming actor Praveen are in the midst of what appears to be a serious discussion. The sun has just begun to set and the sky is a canvas of colours, which multiplies the beauty of the frame.

Baburaj, who has become quite a sensation with his ‘new found' comic timing after last year's hit ‘Salt N' Pepper', flings an empty bottle as he delivers his dialogues.

“In the story, my character, may look tough, but in fact, he is quite the softie, and not all that brave!” says Baburaj, with a laugh, adding that this misunderstanding often happens to him in real life too. “Because of my brawn, people often think that I am too serious. But I like to laugh a lot and make people around me laugh as well,” he says.

Praveen, who is known for comic roles in films such as ‘Kadha Thudarunnu', ‘Snehaveedu' and ‘Tournament', plays a significant role in the film. “My character gives advice to people and lands them all in a soup,” says the actor.

‘Idiots' is being made under the banner of Sangeeth Sivan Productions. Cinematographer is Pramod Varma. Stills are by Vibin Velayudhan.
