‘Traffic', a multi-starrer, narrates how the lives of a few strangers intertwine after certain incidents at a crowded traffic signal.

The sky is a canvas of colours as the sun bids adieu for the day. On a rock by the sea sit two lovers gazing into each other's eyes. Director Rajesh R. Pillai is definitely a happy man as he calls the shot. After all he has just canned some excellent visuals for his film ‘Traffic,' the shooting of which is going on at Munambam beach near Cherai. Vineeth Sreenivasan and Sandhya, who were facing the camera, join the crew as they replay the shot on the monitor.

'Emotional thriller'

“‘Traffic' can be called an emotional thriller,” says Rajesh, who had previously helmed the film ‘Hridayathil Sookshikkan.' The story happens on a September 16 – a fateful day in the lives of certain people. Sudevan (Sreenivasan) is a traffic constable who is under suspension for graft. Dr. Abel (Kunchacko Boban) is celebrating his first wedding anniversary while Raihan (Vineeth Sreenivasan) is a journalist who is about to join a news channel and Siddharth Shankar (Rahman) is a superstar whose latest movie is releasing that day. In addition to these four, there are also a few others who were all strangers when the day began, but after certain strange incidents at a crowded traffic signal, their lives get intertwined in a rather curious way.

Scenarists Bobby and Sanjay, who scripted ‘Ente Veedu Appoontem' and ‘Notebook' explain: “The director wanted the film to be of a different mould altogether. Here every character is of equal importance as the story moves ahead. It was quite a challenging task but an enjoyable experience as well.”

Vineeth Sreenivasan, who recently made his debut as a writer and director with ‘Malarvady Arts Club,' says that it was the exciting script that attracted him to the project. “It is a particularly exciting day for my character as he is all set to join a news channel but as it turns out fate had other plans in store for him,” adds the actor.

Sandhya plays Aditi, who is in love with Raihan. “Aditi is perhaps more worldly-wise than usual for someone her age. But she has her own reasons for being so,” says the Malayali actor who created quite a stir with her performance in the Tamil film ‘Kaadhal.'

The next shot has Asif Ali, who plays Raihan's friend Rajeev, joining the couple. Cinematographer Shyju Khalid goes for a different angle as the actor walks into the frame. “Rajeev is quite excited about Raihan getting the job but he becomes part of some shocking incidents soon afterwards,” says Asif. The cast includes Jose Prakash, Anoop Menon, Prem Prakash, Ramya Nambeesan and Roma, among others.

‘Traffic' is being produced by Listin Stephen under the banner of Magic Frames. Lyrics by Vayalar Sarath Chandra Varma and S. Rameshan Nair have been composed by Mejo Joseph and Samson Kottoor. Still photographer is Sinat Savier.
