Neerparavai
What it is about…
Red Giant Movies’ Neerparavai is produced by Udhayanidhi Stalin and directed by Seenu Ramasamy. The audio launch was held at Sathyam Cinemas in the presence of director Balu Mahendra and lyricist Vairamuthu. Director A.R. Murugadoss released the first CD which was received by Harris Jeyaraj. N.R. Raghunanthan has scored the music and Vairamuthu has penned the lyrics. Vishnu and Sunaina play the lead with Azhagam Perumal, Vadivukkarasi, Nandita Das and Saranya doing supporting roles. The film turns the spotlight on fishermen and their lifestyle.
Music highlights
There are seven songs in the soundtrack. ‘Para Para,’ sung by music director G.V. Prakash, is the best. This song gets repeated with different lyrics by Shreya Ghoshal and Chinmayi. ‘Raththa Kanneer,’ sung by Harish Raghavendra, is the second best. Here the Arabic instruments darbuka and the oud meld beautifully with our own sarod. ‘Meenukku,’ sung by Vijay Prakash and Harini, has a rustic feel. ‘Devan Magale,’ sung by V.V. Prasanna and Saindhavi, and ‘Yaar Veettu,’ sung by Anand Aravindhakshan, are the other interesting numbers.
What they say…
Producer Udhayanidhi Stalin: When Seenu Ramasamy narrated the storyline of Neerparavai , I told him to go ahead with the production. Though our company has been handling big-budget projects, I wanted to do medium-budget films too and Neerparavai is one such. I saw the first copy of the film, I am sure it will be a success.
Director Seenu Ramasamy: I must thank Udhayanidhi Stalin who came forward to produce this film. Neerparavai is a story about fisherfolk. A major portion of the film has been shot at Thiruchendur. Today we have boats, but I wanted catamarans for the shoot and my art director helped me by bringing in as many as needed. When the film was screened for the members of the Censor Board, it was appreciated. I hope moviegoers enjoy it too.
Hero Vishnu: Seenu Ramasamy gave me the gist of Neerparavai in one line and I was delighted when he signed me on for the lead role. Unfortunately, before the shoot I fractured my hand. But Udhayanidhi Stalin and Seenu Ramasamy waited for me to recover completely. I am thankful to both of them for that. I have worked very hard to prove myself in this role of a lifetime.
Music director N.R. Raghunanthan: This is my fourth feature film after the National Award winning Thenmerku Paruvakkatru . As Neerparavai is a seaside story, I was keen that the songs and the RR were apt. I got a fair idea of the story when I saw the rushes. I have used more of string instruments. The audio has been well received.
