The Short Film Center (SFC), a business platform for shorts and documentary films and official section of the International Film Festival of India (IFFI) for the last two years, has invited filmmakers to submit entries for this year's competition. The entry closes on October 10.
The SFC will start on November 23 at the IFFI venue here and end on December 1, penultimate day of the IFFI 2010.An official of the Entertainment Society of Goa (ESG), the government body which co-hosts the IFFI — said on Monday that filmmakers could submit their entries on the website: www.shortfilmcenter.org. The SFC is an ESG initiative.
In the first two consecutive years, the SFC received 300 entries each, and with publicity for the event having increased, more entries were expected this year, the official said.
The SFC award-winning films have been appreciated at various prestigious festivals.
For instance, last year's Golden Lamp Tree Award winner Kelkkunnundo (Are you Listening?) by Geethu Mohandas bagged the Special Jury Award at the 57th National Film Awards recently.
The international platform provided by the ESG for makers of shorts and documentaries has been gaining impetus with an increase in the number of entries received by the SFC, Silvia Rebello of the ESG told The Hindu.
Interactive sessions
The last two editions of the International Competition Section and the Environmental Competition Section together received more than 600 entries. The SFC also holds interactive sessions with directors, and workshops covering pixilation, digital to celluloid film, with professionals from the industry participating.
Encouraged by the support received, more sessions on similar topics related to shorts and documentaries would be held this year.
The awards for International Competition are the Golden Lamp Tree given for the best short/documentary with a cash prize of Rs. 5 lakh ($12,000), the Silver Lamp Tree with cash prize of Rs. 3 lakh ($7,000) and a Special Jury Prize of Rs. 2 lakh ($4,500) in cash.
The award for the Environmental Competition Section is Vasudha, given to the best film on environmental issues along with a cash prize of Rs. 3 lakh ($6,500).
