Novel make-up

Cate Blanchett had a novel way of doing her own make-up on the set of Robin Hood — by plastering herself with mud. The Oscar-winning star has told how she came up with the idea of getting down and dirty to portray a tougher version of Maid Marion. "I used a lot of mud," explains Cate. "I would come down to the set relatively clean and pick something off the ground and smear it on myself. A fetish? I'm not quite sure!"

Terrified of water

Colin Farrell took a huge risk playing a fisherman in his latest movie — because he's terrified of water! "I won't even take a bath," says the former Hollywood bad boy who stars in mermaid drama Ondine . "Actually I can swim but I'm not good in water. It depends on how close I am to the shore. I'm not a good swimmer. I've got a family of good swimmers, all the kids. My brothers and two sisters are great swimmers but I could never swim."

Jackass sobers up for Steve-O

Johnny Knoxville has told how he and his fellow daredevils have surprised themselves with how dangerous they can be when they're sober. The Dukes of Hazzard star is currently shooting Jackass 3D for cinemas and the production is a strict no-booze zone for the sake of recovering alcoholic Steve Glover, aka Steve-O. “There is no beer on set this time around even if some of us wish there was,” explains Johnny. “And to be honest it's going great. Everyone has had different injuries throughout which is a good sign and Steve-O is probably getting the best footage out of everybody. He is really going for it. He wants to prove to everyone he can do these stunts sober. It's been two years since he had a drink now. Everyone has been real supportive of him.”

Wild times ahead

Golden Girl Betty White won't sacrifice her passion for wildlife for the chance of hitting the Hollywood high life. The 88-year-old actor is back in demand following her star turn on Saturday Night Live, with movie and TV offers and even a rumour that she may host the Oscars. But Betty is keeping her head about her. "The thing I like to do best is my work for animals," she says. "I've worked with LA Zoo and a number of other animal causes for years now, and I never want to give that up. Whatever I do will have to fit that.”

Cameron's problem

Cameron Diaz is pleading with parents not to blow her cover when it comes to Shrek . The sexy actress says she is constantly being put in tricky situations by parents introducing her to their kids as their animated heroine, Princess Fiona. “I've had the parents come and say (to their kids), ‘You know who this is? This is Princess Fiona.' And the kids are literally holding back their tears," explains Cameron, who provides the voice to the animated character. “I always tell people, ‘No'. I try to stop them before they tell the kids because as a kid you believe the characters you are watching and falling in love with are real. You don't want to believe there is a human being in there. So, moms, please don't tell them. Let it be. Let Fiona's existence be Fiona!”
