Grandmaster joins a long list of movies from South India that are being remade in Hindi
B. Unnikrishnan’s Grandmaster has checkmated movie soothsayers who were sceptical of the film’s chances at the box office. It has proved to be a thumping hit and the director says Grandmaster will soon be remade in Hindi and Ajay Devgn is likely to be in the lead. If all goes well, Unnikrishnan might even make his Bollywood debut with this winner of a movie as the producers are keen on him helming the film. But the director-writer says although the remake is happening, it is doubtful if he would occupy the director’s chair as he would be busy making his new film in Malayalam.
Unnikrishnan’s decision to give Mohanlal a completely new look and wardrobe in Grandmaster has won the star several fans who are still gushing over his role and his superb portrayal of the cop Chandrasekharan. The filmmaker admits that he got several calls from top cops in Kerala who congratulated him for his down-to-earth portrayal of police officers.
After this well-knit thriller, Unnikrishnan moves on to a film scripted by Sethu, a thriller with a romance in the background. Cameras will start rolling for the film in September. He says the movie will star several stars like Asif Ali and Anoop Menon.
