Looking for variety
Rimi Kallingal, who played to perfection her role of the femme fatale in ‘Happy Husbands,' will be next seen on the screen in ‘Best of Luck.' “After ‘Happy Husbands' happy reception at the box office, I received a number of offers to play the vamp. But I was determined not to repeat myself. And I was lucky to get this role of an orphan, which is quite different from my three other characters,” says Rima. This Shyamaprasad discovery is also acting in a Tamil film ‘Yuvan Yuvanthi,' opposite Bharath. With her cosmopolitan looks, sensuous voice and fabulous dancing talents, this is one actor whose filmography is on the way up.
Scripting sucess
Anjali Menon, director of ‘Manjadikuru' and ‘Happy Journey,' one of the 10 films in Kerala Café,' has scripted two stories – one each for Revathy and B. Unnikrishnan. She says that those who enjoyed her ‘Happy Journey' ought to like her story for Revathy's full-length directorial venture in Malayalam. The film is likely to begin in December. Meanwhile Anjali's debut film ‘Manjadikuru' is going places. Now it will be screened at a film fete in Germany. Most viewers in Kerala are still waiting to see the film that won her the first Hassankutty award.
Classic adaptation
Like many Malayalis, Pramod Payyannur worships the Sultan of Beypore, Vaikkom Mohammed Basheer. Pramod has successfully adapted his stories and his life to the stage and on film. Now Pramod is all set to direct his first feature film, an adaptation of Basheer's ‘Balyakalasakhi.' A graduate in Malayalam, Pramod says it has been a dream to make a feature film on a Basheer story. “The casting is still on and we hope to begin the shoot in January,” adds Pramod.
Woman with a view
Anjuli Shukla, the first woman to win the National award for the best cinematographer for Shaji N. Karun's ‘Kutty Srank,' began her career with none other than Santosh Sivan. She worked with him in ‘Ananthabhadram' and now she is behind the camera of Santosh's dream project, ‘Urumi,' the shooting of which is on in Maharashtra. Both Shaji and Santosh are also acclaimed cinematographers and both graduated from the Film and Television Institute of India. Will Anjuli follow in their footsteps and turn director too?
