Big sisters
Film director R. Sarath's dedication seems to have motivated both his leading ladies in ‘Desire' to turn producers of his films. Shilpa Shetty, who plays the lead in the bi-lingual film (Chinese and Hindi), decided to become the producer when the initial financier backed out. And now Jayaprada, who also had an important role in the film, will be producing his next film, a bi-lingual in Hindi and Malayalam. Mukesh and Jayapradha will enact the lead characters in the Malayalam film. Kay Kay Menon is likely to play the protagonist in the Hindi version, said Sarath, who is working on the script of the untitled film.
Language no bar
Mani Ratnam's ’Ravanana’/ ‘Ravan’/ ‘Villain’ have been followed by the announcement quite a few films being made in two and even languages at the same time. Twenty-four-film-old veteran film director Sibi Malayil has directed his first bi-lingual in Tamil and Malayalam. ‘Apoorva Ragam’ ( in Tamil) is a campus story with a mystery in the backdrop. Jayaraj's ‘Track with Rahman’ is a tri-lingual with Mammootty playing the lead in all three versions (Malayalam, Tamil and Hindi). Will films in English be next?
On a new track
Playback singer and composer Srinivas would be composing the music for the Jayaraj ‘Track with Rahman.’ This will be his second Malayalam film after ‘Seethakalyanam,' for which he had scored the music. “I am really happy about the way the songs are shaping up,” says Srinivas. “Lyricist Rafeeq Ahmed is a pleasure to work with and there are four songs in the film. Depending on how the songs shape up, I might decide to sing one of the songs,” he says. Tune in for melody.
Pretty woman
Pretty woman Samvritha Sunil has turned out to be a lucky talisman for several directors who cast her in their films even if when her role is not that of the heroine or when she is one of many female stars. Think ‘Thirakatha,' ‘Chocolates,' ‘Ivar Vivahitarayal,' ‘Happy Husbands’… Right now she is busy with the shooting of ‘Cocktail,' which has Jayasurya and Anoop Menon playing the male leads.
