Charge of the serial brigade
Saji Surendran lead the charge of the serial brigade to Mollywood. Next to follow in his footsteps is another serial director Aji John, whose first film ‘Nallavan,' starring Jayasurya, is awaiting its release. Says Aji: “Saji certainly gave us the confidence to go ahead and take the plunge. Moreover, it was on the sets of ‘Happy Husbands' that I met Jayasurya and read the script to him. I wanted someone who would give me six months to shoot the film. Jayan liked the script and agreed to do the lead role which shows him in three stages.” ‘Paleri' girl Mythili is paired opposite Jayasurya. The film has been shot mainly in Pollachi as the story unfolds in a village on the Kerala-Tamil Nadu border.
Crooning glory
Playback singer M.G. Sreekumar has tuned all the songs of the Mohanlal-starrer ‘Oru Naal Varum.' And he again turns composer for the Urvashi starrer ‘Sakudumbam Shyamala.' Crooning for him will be comedian Suraj Venjarmoodu who is on a roll with a slew of roles in several films. He also played the lead in the film ‘Duplicate.' Quite gung ho about the song is Suraj who says enthusiastically that he is looking forward to the experience.
On a roll
The three youngsters who played the lead characters in Ritu have found a strong foothold in the film industry. Asif Ali has come in for appreciation for his role in Sathyan Anthikkad's film ‘Katha Thudarrunnu.' Both he and Rima Kallingal will be acting together again in Saji Surendran's ‘Four Friends.'
Net savvy
Another young star who has some interesting roles is Neelathamara star Archana Kavi who plays Jewel in ‘Mummy and Me.' Urvashi and Mukesh act as he parents in the film. Fans of Archana would be happy to know that she is among the few actors in Mollywood who has a blog and is on twitter and Facebook as well. Fans can catch up with her on her blog where she writes (in a mixture of Hindi, English and Malayalam) about her assignments and Mollywood trip.
