This year the Tamil New Year (April 14) falls on a Monday and film producers waiting to release their films on the day have decided to go for an April 11 (Friday) opening to draw the festival crowd during the weekend. Generally at least half-a-dozen films are released on Tamil New Year day. But producers have been trying to space the release to get maximum crowd. A look at this year's line-up.

Naan Sigappu Manithan

Cast: Vishal, Lakshmi Menon, Iniya, Saranya Ponvannan, Jayaprakash, Sunder Ramu, Jagan and ‘Pyramid’ Natarajan.

Direction: Thiru

Cameraman: Richard M.Nathan

Music Director: G.V. Prakash Kumar

Director’s Cut: I have done two films earlier with actor Vishal — Theeratha Vellaiyattu Pillai and Samar . This movie is very different with a unique storyline. The film is a thriller whose hero has narcolepsy. When I narrated the script to Vishal, he immediately expressed his willingness to do it. I did a lot of research for writing the screenplay. When Vishal saw the film, he hugged me. And I am now keen to do another film with him.

Andava Kapathu

Cast: Harish, Aleesha, ‘Nizhalgal’ Ravi, Nellai Shiva, Pandiammal, Kovai Senthil, Sakthivel, Kizhi Ramachandran, Police Raja, Ramesh, Suren and Sunitha

Direction: Lebin

Cameraman: Joe Francis

Music: John Peter

Director’s Cut: I have written the screenplay, dialogue and lyrics and have also directed the film. The film blends comedy and a strong message. It tells you how not to be like the protagonist who is superstitious instead of being practical and hard working.

Kandharvan

Cast: Kadhir, Honey Rose and ‘Ganja’ Karuppu

Direction: Salangai Durai

Cameraman: Anil K. Sekhar

Music: Alex Paul

Director’s Cut: After doing Kathavarayan I took up this film. It is an interesting love story with a gripping climax. I feel that I have a hit movie on hand.
