Lekha Washington

No gaps

Lekha Washington reappeared in Kamina after a long gap. Her last film was Vedam in Telugu. She doesn’t agree there was a gap though, “Where was the gap? I did two Hindi movies in between and signed a Malayalam movie. I am not interested in doing 30 films a year, I’d rather work with a team I like. The whole objective is doing things that one loves. I have a Tamil film releasing in a couple of weeks time.” Titled Kalyana Samayal Saadham (wedding feast) it is taken from the song from the original film Maya Baazar (Vivaha bojanambu?).

Reluctant actor

She is beautiful and has glistening skin, just like most Coorg women . What is Gazal doing in Hyderabad? “My father is in the Army, he got posted here 12 years back. My parents liked the place and decided to live here. I was never inclined towards acting but was interested in dancing and learnt from Shaimak Dawar for four years.” Gazal’s first film as a heroine Jagame Maya (a romantic thriller that revolves around a chase for money) is due for release. She had earlier done a cameo in Ukodathara Ullikipadathara.

My kind of role!

Asmita Sood is playing Sudheer Babu’s romantic interest in Veedu Magadu Ra Bujji. It is a love-cum-action story and the actor plays a headstrong college girl. She quips, “I quite identify with it because I am pretty much like that in real life.” The Sagittarian had earlier worked in Brahmigadi Kadha with Varun Sandesh and Brahmanandam in the lead but it didn’t got good mileage even though it had a 50-day box office run. Asmita is shooting for Aiduguru as well which is being made by the producers of Vinayakudu. Both the films will have a simultaneous release in November.

Having a woman as a director on the sets definitely helps, says Priya Anand who is currently shooting for Vairaja Vai a romantic comedy (read as Kairaja Kai) with Gautam Karthik. Aishwarya Dhanush is directing it and that is her second film. Priya adds, “I really enjoy working with women as I can take more liberties in voicing my opinion and be more communicative and am very comfortable with them. I worked with Kiruthiga Udaynidhi in Vanakkam Chennai and Gauri Shinde in English Vinglish.”
