Suriya on Singam 2
He has just completed K. V. Anand’s Maattrraan and already started shooting for Singam 2 . So, is that a sequel to the hugely successful Singam ? “Well, it’s definitely a continuation, but with a standalone storyline which will make Singam 2 independent of the first movie,” says Suriya. “Right now, I am excited about the release of Maattrraan . It has been a terrific experience making the film and getting into the skin of both the characters. Playing conjoined twins is a difficult proposition. However, it has been a remarkable journey for me,” says Suriya.
Donning a new hat
He has been involved in Tamil theatre, acted in documentaries and in a variety of projects by stalwarts such as Balu Mahendra and K. Balachander. “All this has been happening since 1998,” says Kaushik. “But the interesting phase began when I started directing Aadhiyum Andhamum, my first movie which is slated for release next year. Even as the final touches are being given to the film, I am thinking of directing my second film. Involving myself in theatre with the Prayatna drama troupe has been an exhilarating experience and it has helped me hone my skills in acting and direction,” says Kaushik, who has acted in Kaadhal Saregama and Thoovanam .
Tender love
After making 24 films in Malayalam and Tamil, director Dinesan, earlier known as Sasi Mohan, has taken up a tender love story for treatment in his next project Oduthalam . The film is produced by Babu Kavlekar and Raju Nambiar. Sreejith ( Rathinirvedam ) and Rupika play the lead. “The heroine is witness to a murder that involves the family of her lover. And, she is on the run because they are trying to eliminate her. The hero is torn between the two factions. Will his love for her prevail over everything else? Watch it on the silver screen,” says Dinesan whose earlier films Thilagam (Malayalam) and Bhadrakaliamman (Tamil) were notable.
A rescue act
After working as an associate under director Bala on films such as Sethu, Nanda, Pithamagan, Naan Kadavul and Avan Ivan , Ravi made his directorial debut with Acharya . Now, he is busy with his second venture, Ennathan Pesuvatho, involving five boys (Vijayram, Das, Roshan, Chinnasamy and Master Vignesh) and a girl (Daksha). Says Ravi: “This is a story of five students and their activities after school hours. Along comes a stranger from Bihar whom they befriend, little knowing the actual reason behind her arrival. Only when a group of thugs from Bihar land up in search of her do they realise she had run away from captivity in a village where girls are sold to people who bring them up and use them for immoral activities. The story deals with how the boys rescue her.”
Two at a time
It may be a coincidence, but director Vikraman feels that every ten years, he works on two films simultaneously. “In 1993, they were Gokulam and Naan Pesa Ninaippathellam . In 2003, Priyamana Thozhi (Tamil) and Vasantham (Telugu remake) were released. Now, in 2013, I expect Ilamai Naatkal and Ninaithathu Yaaro to hit the screens,” says Vikraman. While there is a minor hiccup in making Ilamai Naatkal which is 60 per cent complete, Vikraman is onto Ninaithathu Yaaro , with an entirely new cast. “ Ninaithathu Yaaro has been planned as a love story with a touch of realism. With no duets or running around trees, the film seeks to show how two people in love behave. The songs will be heard in the background. Rest assured that this film will be totally different from whatever I have done so far. In fact, the inspiration to write this story came while making Ilamai Natkal ,” says Vikraman.
