Vallinam

What it is about…

Aascar Films’ Vallinam , produced by V. Ravichandran and written and directed by Arivazhagan, is a sports drama based on the game of basketball. The film features Nakul as a basketball player and newcomer Mrudhula Basker as his lady love. Siddharth Jonnalagadda, who acted in the Telugu film Love Before Wedding, plays the villain, while Atul Kulkarni is doing an important role. S. S. Thaman has composed the music. The cinematography is by Bhaskaran, editing by Sabu Joseph V.J., dance choreography by Dinesh, Shobi and Lalitha and the stunts by Silva.

Music highlights

The soundtrack has five songs. The title number stands out for its lyrics by Vaali. It is sung by Palakkad Sreeram, Rahul Nambiar, Naveen Madhav and K. G. Ranjith. Viveka has penned a couple of interesting songs, ‘Maaman Machaan’ sung by STR, S.S. Thaman and Mukesh and ‘Uyiril Uyiril’ sung by Haricharan. The last mentioned number gets repeated, this time rendered by the music director himself. Actor Nakul and Andrea Jeremiah have done a good job of ‘Nakula,’ written by Parvathy.

What they say…

Producer Aascar V. Ravichandran: After watching Eeram , I was convinced that director Arivazhagan would be able to give a good film to the audience. So I entrusted him with the task of making Vallinam for our company and, I should say, he hasn’t disappointed us. His storyline was absorbing too. Director Arivazhagan: I am a gold medallist from the Madras Film Institute. After assisting acclaimed director Shankar, I made my first directorial venture Eeram in 2009, produced by mymentor's S Pictures. The film with an unusual theme went on to become a hit. I am glad that Vallinam , my next movie, is backed by another popular production house, Aascar Films. I am sure of its success at the box office.

Hero Nakul: This is my fifth film and I am a basketball player in it. I doubt whether any other film has been based on the game so far. Playing the game itself is tough, and to act as a player I had to undergo training for a couple of months. I took it up as a challenge and I hope it clicks with the audience. I am also happy that there is a song starting with my name in the film and I got to sing it with Andrea.

Music director Thaman SS: This is my second film with director Arivazhagan, who is a good friend of mine. The songs have come out well and are being appreciated by those who have listened to them.
