Travails of a girl child
The story begins in a village near Muzzafarpur in Bihar where girls are sold off by families, primarily to augment their income. There are gangs that operate in these areas who bring up these children and exploit them. The heroine of Ennathaan Pesuvatho is one such victim. Portrayed by Dhaksha Nagarkar, the heroine trusts her uncle who suggests that she move with him to Tamil Nadu where she settles down in Kutraalam. “It is in these circumstances that she runs into the hero, played by Vijayram and four of his friends. They develop a deep friendship but romance happens between Dhaksha and Vijayram. When he gets to know of her travails, Vijayram vows to take her back to her parents. Does he succeed in the face of obstacles from the gang? In many instances I have used real characters in actual locations to lend some authenticity to the script. There is even a song in Bihari, composed by D. Imman," says director Ravi.
Director S. P. Jhananathan has added actor Shaam to the team comprising Arya and Vijay Sethupathi for Purampokku. “I am delighted to work with Shaam again after working with him in my debut film Eiyarkai ,” says Jhananathan. Shaam seems delighted at this development. “After Eiyarkai which won the National Award for Best Film in 2005, Jhananathan and I have been discussing at length about making a sequel to it . Meanwhile, he was doing and offered me this role. I was quite excited for two reasons — one, because very rarely does one get to be in a multi-starrer and two, my character is very different and interesting. It also gives me an opportunity to explore a totally different dimension of acting abilities. I have also developed a healthy working relationship with Vijay Sethupathi and Arya,” says Shaam.
