What it is about…
Phoenix presents Vu, produced and directed by Ashik. The cast comprises Varun, Neha, Sathya, Thambi Ramaiah, Smile Selva, Madana Gopal, Ajeedh and Deepa Raj. Jayaprakash is the cinematographer; Abhijith Ramasami, the music director; and Murugan Manthiram, the lyricist. The audio of the film was released by director Vikraman and received by P.L. Thenappan and UTV Dhananjayan. The story of Vu revolves around four young friends and how the arrival of a newcomer in their midst changes their lives.
Music highlights
There are seven songs in the album of which two are repeated. ‘Kaalin Keezhey,’ sung by C.G. Krishnan, is in two versions. ‘Thikki Thenaradhu’ is rendered first by Aajeedh and B. Sruthi and later by Adithya Kashyap and Vandana Srinivasan. Both appeal. Thambi Ramaiah joins Arun Saradha, C.G. Krishnan and the director to render ‘Oru Padi Mela’ — the actor has done a good job of singing too. ‘Aaha Idhu Cinema,’ sung by Mukesh, stands out for its lyrics. ‘Chinna Kuzhandhai,’ sung by Velmurugan, is impressive.
What they say…
Producer and director Ashik: I graduated in Visual Communication and followed it up with a diploma in film technology at the Chennai Film Institute. My short film Vanjam got the best screenplay award at the Hungary Film Festival. I have also made eight other short films. When I narrated this script to National award winner Thambi Ramaiah, he not only appreciated it but also gave me the dates to shoot his portions. As for the title, people write ‘Vu’ to denote the Pillaiyar Suzhi.
Hero Varun: Director Ashik and I were friends in Vaishnava College. I was part of the theatre group Koothu-p-Pattarai for some time but this is the first time I am facing the camera. The heroine and I sport three looks in the film.
Music director Abhijith Ramasami: I was part of my college band. I learnt the nuances of music direction from Sadanandam, a guitarist in Ilaiyaraja’s orchestra. I scored the music for Ashik’s short film Vanjam and he liked my work and gave me the chance to work on his feature film.
