Sri Thenandal Films, Azure Entertainment and JV Media Dreams are jointly coming out with a feature film titled Vizha under the direction of Bharathi Balakumaran, who has also written the story and screenplay. James Vasanthan has scored the music. Mahendran and Malavika Menon play the lead while Kollangudi Karuppayi, Yugendran, ‘Kadhal’ Thandapani, Theni Murugan, Kali and ‘Pillaiyarpati’ Jayalakshmi lend support. Vizha is a village-centric story with several twists and turns. The audio of this film was released in the presence of directors K. Balachander, Bharathiraja and Keeyar and actors K. Rajan and Namitha.
Music highlights: There are six songs in the album. Some of the folk numbers haunt you with their melody. The credit should go to the music director. ‘Madura Ennum’ written by Raja Gurusamy and sung by Ilaiyaraaja and Dakshayini is pleasant, while ‘Sethu Po’ written by Karky and sung by Gana Bala, Sunandhan and Theodore is interesting. The remaining four numbers are written by Mohanrajan — ‘Ennacho Edhacho’ sung by Latha Krishna, ‘Ennatha Solla’ sung by Latha Krishna and Sathya Prakash, ‘Sollama Kollama’ sung by Latha Krishna and Raghuram and ‘Nenjadachi Ninnene’ sung by Latha Krishna. The last-mentioned number is sure to win listeners’ hearts.
What they say…
Producer Rama. Narayanan and Sunir Kheterpal : We liked the subject and the director has done a splendid job of the film.
Director Bharathi Balakumaran: I came to Chennai from Tiruchi with the dream of making it big in cinema. I got good exposure through the television reality show Nalaya Iyakkunar Season 3 for which I made seven short films. Now I’m happy to have graduated to making a feature film.
Hero Mahendran: I entered the field as a child artiste, introduced by the legendary director K. S. Ravikumar in his Nattamai . I have acted in more than 100 films in more than six languages and won 38 awards, including four state awards. I am a trained dancer and emerged the winner on the dance reality show Mastana Mastana in 2007. I worked on the short film Udhiri directed by Barathi Balakumaran for Nalaya Iyakunar Season 3 which won the second place. Udhiri has now been made into a feature film titled Vizha .
Music director James Vasanthan: Sasi Kumar’s Subramaniapuram for which I scored the music made me popular and the song ‘Kangal Irandal’ topped the charts. When I was working on Subramaniapuram , people wondered how I would do justice to a village subject, since I am city-bred. Being a village subject, the screenplay of Vizha posed a lot of challenges. This film will make audience sit up and take notice of its beautiful melodies too.
