What it is about…

Written, produced and directed by T. Kumar, Virattu features Sujiv, Erica Fernandes and Pragya Jaiswal. This action mystery unfolds on a train running from Thailand to Malaysia. Dharan Kumar is the music director. The audio of the film was released by producer R. B. Choudary and received by actor-director S. J. Suryah. Music highlights

There are four songs in the album. ‘Podhum Podhum,’ written by Madan Karky, has been rendered well by Naresh Iyer and Andrea Jeremiah. ‘Mouname Mouname,’ which follows, is a beautiful melody in the voices of Haricharan and Andrea and written by Na. Muthukumar. The music director has sung ‘En Lifein Angel,’ penned by Vignesh Shivan. ‘Meetha Paan,’ written by Lallu and sung by Santosh Hariharan and M.M. Manasi, is interesting.

What they say…

Producer-director T. Kumar: I was interested in dramatics right from my school days. I used to do mono acting and directed my first play when I was in Standard XI. Later, in engineering college, I won the best inter-college dancer award twice. However, what awaited me in the film industry were shocks. Undeterred, I pushed ahead to direct and write screenplays for various production houses. This includes a short stint in Malaysia where I worked for a production company. The story of Virattu happens on a fast-moving train from Thailand to Malaysia. The stunt scenes composed by Dho Dho of Thailand and Williams of Malaysia are one of the highlights.

Hero Sujiv: Since my father, T. Kumar, is a producer, director and screenwriter, I grew up watching movies take shape. And it was only natural his interest in cinema rubbed off onto me. Actor-director S. J. Suryah is my mentor. I tried my luck with a few directors before my dad decided to give me this break. Virattu has some risky fights. Since I am a Black Third Dan, I found them interesting. I can’t forget a particular sequence which I had to execute in a peculiar posture in a cramped space. It was hard but I managed to pull it off.

Music director Dharan Kumar: My first film as composer was Parijatham under the direction of K. Bhagyaraj. The STR-starrer Poda Podi is among the hits I have scored the music for. Three of my films are awaiting release of which one is from the YashRaj stable featuring Nani as the hero. I was happy to compose the music for Virattu — an action movie, it gave me scope to work on the background score. The songs have also come out well.
