Varsanadu

Varsanadu

What it is about…

Sri Maayi Films’ Varsanadu is based on a true story and has love as its central theme. Produced by R. Senthil Kumar and directed by Surya Prakash, the film features Kumaran and Shristi Daghe in the lead with M.S. Baskar, Singampuli, Singamuthu, Mayilsamy, Rajkapoor, Santhana Bharathi, Yuvarani and Sampath Ram appearing in important roles. Yathish Mahadev has scored the music.

Music highlights

There are five songs in the album and ‘Pesu Kanmani,’ sung by Haricharan and Mega and written by Valmiki, is easily the best. The same lyricist’s ‘Idhu Kadavulin Kadhala,’ sung by Ajeesh and Mega, is good. ‘Vandanam,’ written by Kavikarko and sung by Ranjith, is in folk style, while ‘Kannae Un,’ written by Thamizh Amuthan and sung by Ajeesh, is pleasing. Annamalai has written ‘En Idhayam’ and it is sung by Jayadev and Mega.

What they say…

Producer R. Senthil Kumaran: I am a native of Madurai. I am running a restaurant in Chennai. It’s been my dream to produce a film in Tamil. I liked the story narrated by Surya Prakash and we have made it into a film.

Director Surya Prakash: I started my career as an assistant director in 1989. My first film as director was Manikam . Then came Maayi, Diwan and Bharathi Simma Reddy (Telugu). My fifth film, Varsanadu, is based on what happened in the life of one of my friends. The hero is an aggressive youth, who frequently gets into street brawls, while the heroine is a gentle girl who hates violence. The story is about how love blossoms between these contrasting characters.

Hero Kumaran: I am into the real estate business. As I am passionate about films, I wanted to give acting a shot. I was thrilled when director Surya Prakash offered me the lead role in this film. I gained a lot of confidence after shooting for some important scenes. I think I will get to do more films in the future.

Music director Yathish Mahadev: My first film as composer was Indiravizha . Then came Sonna Puriyaadhu, and now Varsanadu . For Varsanadu, the director wanted me to compose music befitting the storyline set in the 1980s. We have songs for different situations that will revive old memories. I am getting positive feedback on the songs, which makes me happy.
