What it is about

H3 Cinemas’ Saaindhaadu Saaindhaadu is a story about the illegal testing of products on humans in developing countries. A neurologist in a southern town in Tamil Nadu has tried a test on different blood groups —‘O negative’, ‘AB negative’ and ‘B negative' — but without success. He now only has to try it on the rarest blood group — ‘A negative’. The hero of the film (Aathars) meets the physical requirements for the test. He is the third individual to be subjected to it, when he is admitted to the doctor’s hospital following injuries sustained in a brawl with the land mafia. The rest of the cast includes Anu Krishna in the lead with support from Shivani, Subbu Panju, ‘Nellai’ Siva, ‘Crane’ Manohar, ‘Kadhal’ Sugumar, ‘Alva’ Vasu, ‘Bawa’ Lakshmanan, King Kong, Chinnarasu, Nithya and Uma. The camera is handled by Siva and the music is by A.J. Ali Mirzaq. The story, screenplay, dialogue and direction are by Ghazali and the movie is produced by P. Abdul Majeeth, K.M.Jegabber and M. Saleem. Director Keyar released the first copy of the audio CD which was received by director Samuthirakani.

What they say

Producers P. Abdul Majeeth, K. M. Jegabber, M. Saleem: I am a businessman from Karur, manufacturing plastic chairs. My friend Saleem is from Karaikudi. Another friend, Jegabber, was a director of a Dubai-based electro-mechanics company. He happens to be the elder brother of movie director Ghazali. He is also the president of the Tamil association in Dubai (Ameeraga Tamil Mandram). Several Tamil celebrities participate in the programmes organised by the association there. When the director explained the storyline, my friends and I got interested. The other producer Saleem helped with selecting the locations, in Karaikudi, Peravoorani and other places.

Director Ghazali: I have a degree in agriculture and have been running a company in Dubai for 13 years. I also own a landscaping company. I have worked on a few movies in Tamil, but am basically a writer. My short story collection Avanukkenroru Manam ( A Mind of his Own ) was published by Manimekalai Prasuram and released in Dubai by director Cheran. I have also written lyrics for private Tamil music albums. Besides working behind the camera, I’ve also faced the camera for a couple of Tamil movies. When I narrated the story of Saaindhaadu to my brother and his friends they liked it.

Hero Aathars: After my schooling, I started my own film company Thirumalai Innovation and produced films such as Kai Pesi Enn and Mathikettaan Saalai , in which I played the lead. Shooting is on for my third film Siva Guru . I am also working on Vithiyodu Villaiyadu and Iniyellam Vasantham. Saaindhaadu Saaindhaadu is a different story; the director has handled the sensitive issue of medical crime intelligently.

Music director A.J. Ali Mirzaq: I have composed almost 200 jingles and scored the music for 25 short and documentary films. The title song for the serial Sellakili (Sun TV) has been scored by me. ‘Nalaiya Mudhalvan’, the song dedicated to superstar Rajinikanth on the occasion of his 50th birthday, was composed by me. I have composed the music for Veeran Maaran and February 31 , besides half a dozen other films. There are several in the pipeline too — Ezhuvarusama, Chozhavamsam, Reengaram, Aa and two untitled movies. I am happy that the audio of Saaindhaadu is receiving a good response.

Music highlights

There are five songs in the album. The first three are written by director Ghazali. They are ‘Anbum Arivum’ beautifully sung by Padmalatha, which is repeated by Abay Jodhpurkar. The only difference between the two versions is the background score. Shibani Kashyap has done a good job of ‘Arabu Kuthirai’. ‘Ghazal Mazhaiye’, in the raga Tharmavathi, written by Sarathy and sung by Srinivas and Saindhavi, is a pleasant composition. The same lyricist has written the appealing title number ‘Saaindhaadu’ in raga Kamavarthini, and it is rendered by Karthik and Harini.
