Merku Mogappair Kanaka Durga

What it is about…

Jothi Vinayagar Cinemas’ Merku Mogappair Sri Kanaka Durga is produced by E. Jayabal Swamy, who has also written the story, screenplay, dialogue and lyrics. Chandira Kannaiyan has directed the film.

The story is about how goddess Kanaka Durga vanquishes evil. Saravanan and Mahi are the two heroes, while Divya and Janvika play the heroines.

The audio of the film was released by veteran music director M.S. Viswanathan and received by Keyar, president, Tamil Film Producers’ Council.

Music highlights

There are five songs in the album, all soaked in bhakthi . ‘Nagamma’ sung by the music director has a folksy touch that will appeal to the masses. ‘Kuthuvilakku’ sung by Bhagyaraj and Surmuki switches from Ananda Bhairavi to Aaberi to Shuddhadhanyasi ragas. ‘Annai Aval’ is sung well by Priyadharshini and Hemambika. Kalpana has rendered ‘Arul Kidaikkuma’, while Ananthu has proved his mettle in ‘Silai Endru.’

What they say…

Producer E. Jayabal Swamy: I was working in Khadi Bhavan in Chennai, when I wrote many plays, directed and staged them. The story of this film is based on a true incident that happened to a devotee of Kanaka Durga.

Director Chandira Kannaiyan: In my younger days, I have written a number of plays for All India Radio. After my post-graduation, I worked under director P. Madhavan. I joined Doordarshan as a programme executive and wrote the book Oru Thiraippadam Uruvakirathu. I know producer Jayabal Swamy for more than 35 years and he gave me the opportunity to direct this film.

Hero Saravanan: After finishing my diploma in electrical engineering, I joined as an executive producer in Z Tamil. As I was interested in films, I joined Koothu-p-Pattarai and played the lead role in the stage production Paramartha Guru . Director Chandira Kannaiyan who saw my performance roped me in. I am glad that I am making my debut with a devotional film.

Music director Deva: I have done more than 250 devotional music albums and 375 films. When director Chandira Kannaiyan approached me for this film, I was happy to take it up as it has a liberal dose of drama and sentiment that will keep the audience hooked. I have sung a song in praise of ‘Nagamma’, which, I feel, will be heard at temple functions from now on.
