What it is about…

G.S. Studio presents Megha, produced by Albert James, and written and directed by Karthik Rishi. The cast includes Aswin, Srushti, Angana Roy, Jayaprakash, Meera Krishnan, Y.G. Mahendra, Vijayakumar and Ravi Prakash. Ilaiyaraaja has scored the music. The audio of this romantic thriller was released in London by Kamal Haasan and received by ‘Aingaran’ Karunamurthy in the presence of Ilaiyaraaja.

Music Highlights

There are seven numbers in the album, each bearing the maestro’s stamp. Ilaiyaraaja has rendered a couple of songs — ‘Mugilo Megamo’ and ‘Jeevane Jeevane.’ ‘Mugilo,’ written by Na. Muthukumar, is the best; the same song is rendered by Ilaiyaraaja’s son, Yuvan Shankar Raja with Ramya N.S.K. ‘Jeevane Jeevane’ penned by Pazhani Bharathi impresses. Na. Muthukumar’s another enchanting number is ‘Enna Vendum’ sung by Karthik and Priyadharshini. ‘Kalvane Kalvane’ in the voices of Haricharan and Ramya is a beautiful number by the same lyricist. ‘Chellam Konjum Poove’ written by Pazhani Bharathi and sung by Yuvan and Ramya is arresting. The old hit ‘Putham Pudhu Kalai,’ originally sung by S. Janaki, is now rendered by Anitha, bringing the album to a fitting finale.

What they say…

Producer Albert James: I am a doctor by profession. An ardent fan of Rajinikanth and Ilaiyaraaja, I am also passionate about films. Looking at the film industry from outside is completely different from being inside it and producing a movie yourself. I have learnt a lot from this movie-making experience. I was happy to see the maestro Ilaiyaraaja working from close quarters.

Director Karthik Rishi: I worked as an associate of director Subramaniam Siva. It was Albert James who said that we should approach Ilaiyaraaja. We are glad that the legend agreed to score the music. We recorded the songs in Hungary, mixed and mastered them in London.

Hero Ashwin: I have been interested in cinema from my school days. After finishing college, I started acting in short films, some of which I made myself. I also got an opportunity to play characters roles in Nadunissi Naaygal, Mankatha and Ezham Arivu . Karthik Rishi, who saw my performance in these films, offered me this role. Megha has an absorbing storyline coupled with the maestro’s musical treat.

Music director Ilaiyaraaja: When this team came to me and said that they wanted me to compose the music for their film, I asked the director to narrate the story. I liked the story as well as the screenplay. So I agreed to score the music.
