What it is about…

Entertainment Unlimited’s Marumugam, produced by Sanjay and directed by Kamal Suburamaniam, is a romantic thriller with enough twists and turns to keep the audience hooked. The cast includes Daniel Balaji, Preeti Das, Anoop, Banuchander, Uma Padmanabhan, Swaminathan and Krish Raj. The audio of the film was released in the presence of K.S. Ravikumar, the late Manivannan and Aabhavanan.

Music highlights

There are five songs in the album and ‘Kuru Kuru Kannale,’ sung by Saindavi and written by Eknath, outscores the rest. Three other songs written by the same lyricist are ‘Kattre Kadhal Kattre’ sung by the music director, ‘Kathadi Kattukule’ sung by Ranina Reddy, and ‘Boom Boom’ sung by Belliraj and Chinmayi. ‘Nee Illatha Vazhkai,’ written, composed and sung by Praveen with Ranina Reddy, is pleasant.

What they say…

Producer Sanjay: I deal in imported furniture. Director Kamal and I were schoolmates. We renewed our friendship at an old boys’ association meet. He was keen on directing a film. Since I am also interested in cinema, I told him that I would produce the film to be helmed by him. Now we have successfully completed the project.

Director Kamal Suburamaniam: It all began at St. Joseph’s Boys Higher Secondary School in Coonoor. We were a bunch of kids who used to design posters which were well appreciated by all in the school. Slowly we started our own production house called ‘Oho Productions’ in memory of director Sridhar and his mega hit, Kadhalikka Neramillai . When we met again after 25 years, we decided to live our dream and started the production house Entertainment Unlimited and Movie Magic. As I earlier worked with directors R. Aravindaraj and Aabhavanan, I wanted to start my journey in films with a thriller. I spoke to Daniel Balaji, my senior at the film institute, and hit upon the story idea for Marumugam , and Sanjay stepped in as producer. Marumugam is sure to impress all age groups.

Hero Daniel Balaji: I started with Kaaka Kaaka and have done five films each in Tamil and Malayalam, two in Kannada and one in Telugu. In fact, I am not the hero of the film but as the story evolves I become the protagonist. The director has done the screenplay well and I am sure of the film’s success.

Music director Agastya: I am a guitarist and have scored the music for five films in Telugu and a few albums in Hindi. When I met director Kamal, I showed him my latest Telugu film music album. After hearing the songs, he told me that I was going to score the music for Marumugam. This film marks my debut in Tamil. After the audio release, all those who have heard the songs are appreciating my work.
