What it is about…

Tamil Kumaran Productions’ Endrendrum Punnagai , produced by G.K.M. Tamil Kumaran and directed by Ahmed, is a love story with a difference. The film features Jiiva, Trisha, Vinay, Santhanam, Andreah, Nasser, T.M. Karthick, Abinay and Jegan. The music is scored by Harris Jeyaraj, the cinematography is by R. Madhie, and the editing is by Praveen K.L. and Srikanth N.B. The audio was released by actor Kamal Haasan and received by director Bala.

Music highlights

There are six numbers in the album of which two are written by Viveka — ‘Yealae Yealae Dostu Da’ and ‘Ennatha Solla’. ‘Yealae’ is sure to win hands down. Sung by Krish and Naresh Iyer, the song is interestingly interspersed with rap portions by Krishna Iyer. ‘Ennatha Solla,’ sung by Karthik, Haricharan, Velmurugan and Ramesh Vinayakam, is equally good. Thamarai has penned the melodious song ‘Enai Saaithaalae’ which is sung by Hariharan and Shreya Ghosal. ‘Kadal Naan Thaan,’ written by the late Vaalee and sung by Sudha Ragunathan, Suzanne D’Mello and M.K. Balajee, is delightful. The other interesting numbers are ‘Vaan Engum Nee Minna,’ written by Karky and sung by Aalap Raju and Harini, and ‘Othayilae,’ written by Kabilan and sung by Abhay Jodhpurkar and Bhargavi.

What they say…

Producer G.K.M. Tamil Kumaran: I have always had an interest in producing films and Endrendrum Punnagai is my first. When director Ahmed narrated the story of Endrendrum , I fell in love with it. Dr. V. Ramadoss who also liked the story said he would support this project.

Director I. Ahmed: I started out as a director of teleserials and over the years I have directed over 60 short films. I worked as the creative director for UTV and Radio City. Vaamanan starring Jai, Santhanam and Priya Anand was my debut flick. Endrendrum is my second venture. The film touches upon subjects such as friendship, love and the relationship between a father and son. The moment Tamil Kumaran heard the story he was eager to start the project. I wrote this script with Jiiva in mind. The character has a certain level of maturity and I felt Jiiva could pull off the role with ease. Considering the nature of the script which was more like a musical, I approached Harris Jayaraj and he has done a wonderful job.

Hero Jiiva:Endrendrum Punnagai is a slice-of-life tale revolving around an ad film maker and his friends. I play a beautifully etched character that goes through a lot of changes as the narrative progresses. There is something about it that the audience can easily relate to. I hope I have done justice to the role.

Music director Harris Jeyaraj: When director Ahmed approached me for Endrendrum , I thought of politely declining the film as I already had a lot of films on my platter. But when he started narrating the story, I got so absorbed that I asked him, “When do we start work on it?” Endrendrum is a musical, and I thoroughly enjoyed working with Ahmed. I hope filmgoers enjoy the tracks as much as I enjoyed creating them.
