What it is about
Directed by Krisheno, MBoyz Records’ Dum Tea is about three youngsters aspiring to be the next big pop group in India, the problems they face and how they overcome them. The cinematography is by Anjoy Samuel, the music is by Jude Niranjan, the lyrics are by Mamiboys and Prakash Baskar and the cast comprises Krisheno, Kevi-J and Bardy, who are known as Mamiboys. The audio CD was released by RJ Dhina and was received by the unit members of the film.
Music highlights
There are not many details on the CD cover about the album or the singers. All the songs have been written by Kevi- J and only one number ‘Natpukule’ has been written by Prakash Baskar. ‘Reena I love you’ sung by Kevi-J and Jude Niranjan is good and the same can be said about ‘Tsunami Penne’ rendered by the same singers. Another song, sung by the same singers, is ‘Thurathuthey’. The title number ‘Dum Tea’ has been sung by Bardy, while Kevi-J and the director filling in the rap segments. ‘Kannadi’ and ‘Vidyatumey’, both by Kevi-J, pass muster.
What they say
Director and hero Krisheno: The three of us comprise Mamiboys, a Singapore-Indian pop group, established in 2007. We have contributed the vocals to the Tamil Film Thottu Paar and the Telugu films Bindaas and Orange . We have worked with music directors Srikanth Deva, Bobo Sasi and Harris Jayaraj. Our first song “Reena I Love You” enjoyed over 2 lakh views on YouTube; this inspired us to produce a music album titled Dum Tea . After we had completed one song on the album, we thought of the possibility of a feature film — Dum Tea . The film has three heroes of whom I am one.
Music director Jude Niranjan: I have worked with Mamiboys on all their songs starting from the very first song ‘Chalo India’, which was done to motivate the Indian cricket team. I am a second-year Visual Communications student at D.G.Vaishnav College. I learned to play the piano at Antony School of Music and went on to score the music for ten short films and three jingles. Two of my numbers attracted quite a few viewers on YouTube. ‘Tucker Trichy’, in particular, was even named the official anthem of Trichy, by the then district collector. My friend Kevi-J and I began working together on some projects. When we landed this project, we were determined to make it a good album.
