Post the successful Endrendrum Punnagai, director Ahmed is hot property. The latest news is that Udhayanidhi Stalin will play the lead in his yet-to-be-titled film. The story goes that Udhayanidhi liked Endrendrum Punnagai so much that he wanted to work with Ahmed. “He liked the fact that the film was so colourful, funny and had good music. When I told him my idea for a film, he immediately asked me to work on it.”

What kind of a film can we expect? “It will be a fun film about friends, relationships and love,” he says. Apart from Udhay, who else will feature in it? “I have just started writing the script. I haven’t thought of anyone in particular. However, I would like to say that this film too will have big names.”

Suriya moves on

Following a spat with Gautham Menon that resulted in the film being dropped, Suriya is close to finishing Anjaan, directed by Lingusamy, and has already signed on his next which will be directed by Venkat Prabhu.

He is expected to begin work on Venkat’s film in June after finishing a 23-day schedule in Goa for Anjaan. While there is no word yet on who will play the female lead, it has been revealed that R.D. Rajasekhar will take care of the cinematography and Yuvan Shankar Raja will score the music.

Vijay to play a spoilt brat

Vijay Sethupathi will play a spoilt brat in his next, Vanmam, which is set in Kanyakumari district. Directed by Jaikrishnaa, Vanmam is about two close friends played by Vijay Sethupathi and Kreshna.

Talking about Vijay’s role in the film, Jaikrishnaa says, “Vijay plays a character who throws his weight around in the village. I wanted someone with the looks of a youth living in South Tamil Nadu. The film will explore the region's sensibilities.”

Sunaina will play the female lead. S. Thaman will score the music.
