Talk show ‘Sishu Samrakshana’ throws new light on child care and parenting
Every Saturday, parents of new born babies have an appointment with a paediatrician. And, this meeting happens in the drawing room of their homes when they tune into the programme Sishu Samrakshana, a talk show anchored by Vidya Rao, currently on air on the small screen. The programme is a boon to new parents and also parents of little children. Here a paediatrician talks about different topics and a celebrity mother recounts her experiences and provides with some baby care tips too.
Directed by Prince Immanuel, another interesting feature of the programme is that besides Telugu, the show is remade in Kannada and Malayalam too. Talking about the show, the director says, “We had done this show in Tamil; that was telecast on SUN TV. It was well received and we decided to do it in other regional languages. The show’s main aim is to help out new mothers. A baby brings joy but for parents, especially first-timers it is a different experience. The show is informative for them and also for parents of little children where doctors talk about the need to visit a paediatrician regularly,” he says.
For Prince, who has done around 17 shows on SUN TV, Sishu… was an educative journey. “There were many interesting and funny instances we got to know. For example, a doctor on the show revealed that while an adult can see things from a distance of 5 ft, a baby’s eye sight is sharp and can see even from 2 ft. And that is the reason, babies are experts in picking up dirt from even small corners,” he says with a laugh and adds, “In one of the episodes, a doctor talks about the child’s psyche in relation to Tom and Jerry. Kids enjoy when Tom hits Jerry. And when their mothers hit them, they equate their mothers to Tom and think they are Jerry.”
Actresses like Kalyani, Sushma and Sumana Sri of small screen have appeared on the show recalling their motherhood experiences. So, if your bundle of joy has just arrived and you are bogged with many questions on child care and parenting, tune into the programme on Saturdays at 11 a.m. on Gemini TV
