M.S. Viswanathan made headlines a few years ago when he composed the music for a song in public at a film magazine’s event. Now, Ilaiyaraaja is all set to do the same for the film Rajaraja Chozhanin Porval , to be directed by R.S. Amudeshwar, an assistant to director Fasil. The maestro will compose the music at Siddhar Karuraar’s sannidhi in Kalyana Pasupathiswarar Temple, Karur on September 11, as part of the film’s inaugural. The venue seems fitting, for, Siddhar Karuraar is said to be the guru of Rajaraja Chola. Over 5,000 fans are expected to witness the event.

The film’s lead is played by lyricist Snehan and newcomer Naatiyaa. The cast includes Sneha, Shriya, Thambi Ramaiah and Avinash.

Encouraging newcomers

While most music directors are game for singing, D. Imman says he sings only when it is inevitable. “I sing when both directors and producers compel me. I’d rather give that opportunity to a gifted newcomer, to whom it makes a huge difference. There are a lot of talented youngsters out there, who can do with such opportunities. Helping them matters to me more than my singing,” says the composer.

Back again

A.R. Murugadoss has his hands full with the Hindi remake of the Tamil hit Thuppaki. “I’m working with Akshay Kumar for the remake. After completing this, actor Vijay and I are planning to team up for a project,” says the director. Right now, Vijay is said to be wrapping up Jilla with Mohan Lal.

For gen-next

Director-cinematographer Balu Mahendra is ready with his next, Thalaimuraigal. The veteran has written, directed and handled the camera too for the film. Apparently, he plays the main character, and has roped in actor-director Sasi Kumar for an important role. Sasi Kumar has also produced the film, for which Ilaiyaraaja has composed the music. Balu Mahendra’s previous outing as a director was Athu Oru Kana Kaalam in 2005 starring Dhanush and Priya Mani.
