Art to art direction
Abdul Rauff Nisthar started his career as an artist, and has held exhibitions of his works in his home town Madurai. Seeing his talent, director Bharathiraja asked him to work in the film industry. Incidentally, director Balu Mahendra bought Abdul’s painting of an old man. “Director Bharathiraja was moved and speechless when I presented him a painting of his mother. Directors Bala, Ameer, Prathepan, actors Vasanthabalan, Revathi and many others from the film industry have appreciated my work,” says Abdul who also sculpts, and works with plaster of Paris. “I am doing art direction for three films — Ulagan, Immaa and Naa Pudicha Muyalukku Naalu Kaalu. I look forward to films that can showcase my talent.”
Singing with a legend
Dhanush is delighted. And why not? For his 25th film Velai Illa Pattathari, the actor gets to sing with legendary singer S. Janaki, who has returned after a break. “I do not know how to thank her for singing with me. I feel lucky, and all of us are happy that her comeback film is ours.”
