Her claim to fame is through costume designing for Tamil film Shivani produced by Hansraj Saxena. But, Sundari comes from a great lineage — her uncle, Arun Pandian, debuted with Oomaivizhigal following which he acted in over 100 films, produced and directed several movies and finally entered politics through Vijayakanth’s DMDK. Sundari, Arun’s brother Durai Pandian’s daughter, honed her designing skills at Pearl Academy. She is now facing the camera as an actor in director Prabhakaran’s Om Shanti Om opposite Srikanth, and Tamizhukku En Onrai Azhuthavum featuring Nakul. She is also the costume designer for actors such as Bindu Madhavi, Aiswarya, Mano Bala and Oorvasi.

Face the challenges

Suicide is not a solution to problems — this is what debut director Patturam Senthil seeks to emphasize in his upcoming film Karpavai Katrapin . “There are several ups and downs in life. In the face of adversity, many people resort to suicide. Running away from challenges is cowardly. Problems cannot be solved by committing suicide; in fact, this creates more problems for near and dear ones. I have tried to convey this in Karpavai Katrapin , a tragicomedy,” says Senthil who has cast Madhu Raghuram ( Kaathal Solla Aasai ) as the hero and Aparnita ( Aaru Chakra Kuthirai ) as the heroine.

Upward swing

According to ‘Film News’ Anandan’s Film Information Centre, 314 Tamil films were launched for production in 2013. Of this, 164 released during the year — which means 150 more are slated for release in the coming months. Interestingly, in 2012, there were only 162 releases. Another bit of good news is both Jilla and Veeram are setting the cash registers ringing at the box office with the latter having a slight edge, we hear. Unlike Deepavali, this Pongal saw the release of only two biggies with almost a whole week of holidays to bring in the crowds.
