Busy with Shankar’s I , Vikram hadn’t signed any films. Since the film is now nearing completion, the actor has three projects in hand — a commercial flick with director Hari, and one each with Gautham Vasudev Menon and Dharani. Meanwhile, Vikram may have let us get a peek at his look in I — he was spotted recently with his head shaven. Hmmm…
The light of day
Balu Mahendra is thrilled — the Censor Board and a few others have lauded his upcoming directorial venture Thalaimuraigal . “I get at least one letter every day from people who have watched the rushes. In fact, actor Sasikumar, who has produced the film, is happy with the outcome. One interesting aspect of the film is the 250-year-old house in Nazarathpet that we used for the shoot. I was stunned when I chanced upon it because it was just the way I had wanted it! I spent an entire day just watching how the light fell on it. I shot the film in natural light,” says the ace director. While Sasikumar plays the lead in the film, Balu Mahendra has an important role and has handled the camera too.
Hollywood calling
Prakash Raj is certainly going places. The versatile actor has two Hollywood films in his kitty — Six Suspects written by Vikas Swarup and one to be directed by Steven Spielberg. “Everything is progressing in the right direction, and I am very happy about it,” says Prakash Raj. On the Tamil film front, the actor is busy with Madha Gaja Raja , Yaan , Boologam , JK Enum Nanbanin Vaazhkai .
Off to Melbourne
After his recent concert in London, maestro Ilaiyaraaja is all set to perform in Melbourne with his 50-odd-member orchestra and lead singers such as S.P. Balasubrahmanyam, Chitra and Jeyachandran. “I would love to perform across the globe and meet my fans. But, I need a well-rehearsed orchestra. Then there are the logistics and the financial aspects too. So, I take up overseas concerts only when the organisers are willing to take care of all these,” says the music composer.
Meanwhile, director Mysskin recently did something remarkable — he released the original soundtrack of his film Onaayum Aattukuttiyum as a CD on the day of the film’s release. The CD cover comes with a message from the director — “I dedicate this original score composed by our beloved master Ilaiyaraaja to everyone who loves music”.
Voicing it
Actor Karthi has lent his voice for a song in the Telugu version of Biriyani . Incidentally, it is the same song in the film’s Tamil version that saw him turn a playback singer. Biriyani ’s music has been composed by Yuvan Shankar Raja.
