Actor Parthepan’s film Kadhai Thiraikadhai Vasanam Iyakkam is in the final stages of shooting. And, it’s getting bigger and better with the cast list growing longer. The movie, which is about filmmaking, features Arya and Amala Paul. Actors Prakash Raj and Nazriya have joined the group. And, we now hear that Parthepan has approached two of the busiest stars in the industry — Suriya and Dhanush. Apparently, both the actors or at least one of them might do a cameo. Interestingly, the highlight of the movie is that Parthepan is not acting in it. Why? Because, the versatile artiste says the story does not need him!

A movie for Rs. 30!

How about Oru CD 30 Ruba for a film title? Interesting? Here’s what makes it even more interesting. It deals with film piracy. While audio is downloaded free of cost, many pirated CDs cost at least Rs. 30. The movie’s said to detail how this defeats all the hard work that goes behind the making of a film. Directed by R. Rahesh, the film has lyricist Pa. Vijay, Sarithiran (of Vada Poche fame), Ram, Sathyan and Ravinesh in the lead. New face Sania Dhara joins them. Thambi Ramaiah, Manobala, Ravi Maria, Lakshmy Ramakrishnan and Meera Krishnan, along with 40-plus newcomers, are part of the cast. The film’s produced by Ven Govinda for Tag Entertainments.

Close shave

Director Vijay’s next is Saivam , for which he wanted actor Nasser to shave his head. However, this seemed next to impossible considering Nasser is acting in half-a-dozen films, most of which are in the last stages of shooting. Nasser, who plays a grandfather in the film, had a long discussion with his make-up artistes and hair dresser. And, both gave him the green signal, and voila, Nasser shaves his head!

Four for a record

Enna Satham Indha Neram has entered the Limca Book of Records for featuring quadruplets — all girls — in a film. The film’s director Guru Ramesh says the film revolves around eight-year-old quadruplets — Adhithi, Akshithi, Akrithi and Aapthi from Chennai. The film’s cinematographer is Sanjay, son of veteran B. Loganath. The film’s dialogues are by John, the son of director J. Mahendran while the music is by Naga, the brother of music director Maragathamani. Director ‘Jayam’ Raja and actor Manu play the kids’ parents.

Busy days ahead

Looks like actor Jiiva has his hands full. He has completed shooting for cinematographer-turned-director Ravi K. Chandran’s Yaan , in which he is paired with Thulasi Nair. Up next is a film by Super Good Films, his family production house in which he will be paired with Kajal Aggarwal. The yet untitled movie is to be directed by Karunakaran, a known name in the Telugu film industry.

A challenging role

Vedika who was last seen in director Bala’s Paradesi has bagged a significant role in director Vasanthabalan’s period drama Kaviyathalaivan . The cast includes Siddharth, Prithiviraj and Thambi Ramaiah. A thrilled Vedhika says, “It’s a challenging role, and it’s wonderful to be playing it at this point in my career.” She is paired with Prithiviraj in the film.

Going forward

Excited about the success of Nimirndhu Nil , ‘Jayam’ Ravi has begun the shoot for his next film, directed by his brother ‘Jayam’ Raja. “It’s a powerful script. We have been trying to rope in Nayanthara for a long while, and we managed it with this film,” the actor says. Tentatively titled Thani Oruvan , the film also features Ganesh Venkatraman.

Changing course

Post Nimirndhu Nil , there’s another person too who’s thrilled — its director Samuthirakani. The director turns actor with his upcoming direction Kidna . He’s paired with Amala Paul. “The story revolves around two people from the age of one to 45. I have decided to shoot the movie in a dense forest. Amala Paul and I sport five different looks in the film,” says the director.
