The game of rummy is one of chance, and luck plays an important part in winning the game. Most often, our lives are also like a game of rummy. Director of the upcoming film Rummy , K. Balakrishnan says, “When we set off on our life’s journey with a particular goal in mind, fate has other ideas up its sleeve. It will turn our lives towards a different direction.” And the film shows how its protagonist’s life is akin to the game. In fact, Vijay Sethupathi, who plays the lead and is paired with Gayathri, says that in his own life “there has been twists and turns”. “When my family left a small town and came to Chennai, I never expected to get into films. But, see where I am today!”
Getting busy
Disha Pandey entered films in 2010 through the Hindi film Bolo Ram as well as the Tamil film Thamizh Padam . She followed it up with Mayanginen Thayanginen , Race (Telugu) and Saare Jahaan Se Mehenga (Hindi). In 2013, Disha has three Tamil films in different stages of production — Keeripulla , Chikki Mukki and Manadhil Maayam Seidhai . Looks like this Rajasthani girl who ventured into the glamour world through modelling has come a long way. Meanwhile, Disha also has Telugu films OK and Moksha getting ready for release.
Police story
Of late, Sarath Kumar has been seen in character roles. Sarath Kumar now plays a CBI officer in director Omkar’s Achcham Thavir , which is dubbed into Tamil from Telugu. “When it comes to portraying a police officer, there is not much you can do, in terms of characteristics. The difference lies in how a director etches out the role. For instance, in Samudirakani’s Nimirndhu Nil , the message is about the need to make CBI an independent body where an upright official (that I play) can function without interference and deliver justice,” says Sarath Kumar.
Wield the megaphone
He came into the limelight after penning the screenplay and co-writing the dialogues with director Venkat Prabhu for Chennai 600028 . R. Sasidharan will now direct a film. Vaaraayo Vennilavae will have Dinesh ( Attakathi ) and Haripriya in the lead. Another of the two heroines is yet to be finalised. “We have completed the first schedule. It is a love story that shuttles between Chennai and Kerala,” says Sasidharan who has worked for director Pavithran in three films as associate director.
