Actor Suriya in Singam 2

Actor Suriya in Singam 2

Sequels seem to be the current trend in the Tamil film industry. When Singam was first released, it broke many box office records and even in its Hindi avatar, Ajay Devgn had a hit in hand. Actor Suriya too seems to have found his winning formula with the sequel Singam 2 getting ready for release. On June 2, the songs of Singam 2 will be launched at a high profile function at Chennai Trade Centre. Ajay Devgn, Hindi film director Rohit Shetty and the Kannada version’s hero Sudeep are expected to grace the event.

Thrilling whodunit

Evil never dies. That’s the premise on which director Subramaniyan Janardhanan’s musical thriller Kandanam is based. The story is about five friends who go to a resort to celebrate the birthday of one among the group. Subramaniyam has cast Vishal Ramdhari, Zeta Mariah, Kamali, Sree, Karthik and Priythisha Mythili in the main roles. “The underlying theme is how avarice affects friendship. A series of six murders takes place. Who amongthem is responsible ? What is the reason for the crime? The suspense builds up throughout the film and there is an unexpected twist in the climax,” says Subramaniyam. Kandanam will be ready for release in June.

Nazriya makes waves

With Kerala continuing to introduce pretty and talented newcomers it’s not surprising that Nazriya Nazim is making waves in Kollywood circles. Work on Thirumanam Ennum Nikka (TEN) in which she features, is progressing at a brisk pace, and Nazriya is excited her career is shaping up the way she had envisaged. Her co-star Jai has been a great source of inspiration to her. TEN, directed by Anish and produced by Aascar Films, has music by Gibran. Since her debut in 2006, she has done four films in Malayalam, while her recent release Neram was a bilingual in Malayalam and Tamil. Nazriya will also be seen in the Tamil films Raja Rani and Nayyandi (opposite Dhanush).

Win-win situation

Innovation happens all the time in Tamil cinema. Here’s the latest: Perhaps for the first time ever, three music composers – Ganesh (of the erstwhile Shankar-Ganesh duo), Deva and A. R. Raihanah have sung a song for music director U. K. Murali, for the upcoming film Win , directed by Vinod Kumar, and being made in Tamil and Telugu. The romantic thriller features Jai Akash and Angel Jitendra, along with Kavya, Nikita and Kauslaya. Murali has used the voices of Unni Menon and Nikhil Mathew, winner of the Airtel Super Singer reality show. Post-production work on Win is currently on. Says Jai Akash, “I play a romantic character in the film, quite a change from my usual action-oriented roles. The message Win seeks to convey is true love always triumphs. In my quest to find it, I meet four girls. But, only one among them turns out to be my true love.”

Jai Akash plays a bike racer and there are some thrilling race sequences to keep his action fans happy.
