He is a big name in theatre and has done significant roles in movies such as Kola Kolaya Mundhirikka and Veppam . She has made a mark as a director with her first film Thiru Thiru Thuru Thuru . Now, the two are getting together for Kolai Nokku Paravai , a murder mystery. Director Nandhini J.S. is giving finishing touches to the script of the film which will start rolling by early April. “Karthik plays a CBI investigator assigned to solve a series of murders in a rural area fraught with superstitious beliefs and customs,” says Nandhini. Radhika Apte plays a reality TV host who is on an independent mission in the same locality, much to the consternation of the investigator. And, Karthik Kumar is getting into the mood of the character he is playing. “You will find me in a totally different get-up. I am putting on more muscle. This is quite a challenging role, a combination of Holmes and Poirot,” says Karthik.
Steady progress
Not many know that he is director Vijay’s older brother. But, Udhayaa has been steadily making a name for himself as an actor of substance with nine films to his credit, the last being Ra Ra . Besides appearing in a guest role in director Vijay’s next, Thalaiva starring Vijay as the hero, Udhayaa is busy completing his role in director Kandeepan’s Aavi Kumar . Says Udhayaa: “This is a family entertainer with a curious mix of horror and comedy. I play a reality TV host and the horror aspects that take place are an integral part of the proceedings on TV.” Paired with him is Kanika Tiwari who was earlier seen as Hrithik Roshan’s sister in Agneepath.

Trust and respect between a man and woman ensure harmony in the household. It is also said that a woman can make or break a man. These two aspects form the core of director Selvakumar’s Ayul Regai Neeyadi . Starring yesteryear actor Thangavelu’s grandson Ashwin and Dharshita, the story is about a homeless youth and his quest for love and happiness. “The hero meets a well-to-do girl who gives him all her love and affection as well as shows him the right direction towards a better life. With her unstinting support and guidance, he goes places but never forgets what she has done for him. The title says it all,” explains Selvakumar.
Comedy with a difference
This seems to be the year of comedy, with yet another film in the genre being made by director Subbu. But he is confident his creation, Suttakathai, will be different from the rest because of the time, place and era when the story happens. “Even as the rip-roaring instances happen, the underlying factors are spine-chilling. It is all about a murder and the ensuing enquiry. The story takes place at night and we shot the film extensively in Kodaikanal. One night while shooting, we were confronted by a herd of wild buffaloes, which added to the thrill,” says Subbu. Balaji and Venky play the main leads with Lakshmi Priya as the heroine.
