The Sound of Music

One of the most loved musicals of all time, this movie taught me a lot through its music. The way Maria reaches out to each member in the Captain Georg von Trapp household, through her music and outlook on life, makes this a beautiful movie that will be cherished forever.

Life is Beautiful

An Italian movie based on World War II, the film continues to haunt me on various aspects. The story revolves around Guido, who falls in love with Dora and elopes with her and marries her. They have an adorable son, Giosué. As they are Jews, they end up in a concentration camp. What follows is Guido’s attempt at making the camp look like a game, to hide the horrifying truth from his son. Guido also ends up dead in the process, but he made sure that his son was safe (by convincing him that it was a game of hide and seek and that he needs to stay hidden no matter what he hears)

Manichithrathazhu

One of the classics in the Malayalam film industry, this film continues to give me goosebumps each time I watch it. A great script, combined with some memorable performances by Shobana as Nagavalli and Mohan Lal as Dr. Sunny, this is an all-time favourite.

Positive

A beautiful short film directed by Farhan Akhtar, this film narrates the story of an HIV-affected photographer, essayed by Boman Irani, who impresses with his acting, and leaves you in tears.

Taare Zameen Par

A wonderful movie that narrates the story of dyslexic boy, Ishaan Awasthi. Aamir Khan, who plays the role of the art teacher, shines as a ray of hope in Ishaan’s life, while the boy copes with separation from his family.
