Race Gurram
Cast: Allu Arjun, Shruti Haasan, Ravi Kishan
Director: Surender Reddy
Music: S.S. Thaman
Banner: Lakshmi Narasimha Productions
Concept: The focus of a race horse is only on the set target. It doesn’t turn hither or thither and moves at a fast pace to hit the winning post. The protagonist in the movie is like a race horse, super energetic and focused. What is the target that is set for him and how he gallops towards it is the interesting point to watch. Surender Reddy who earlier gave Kick to the audience is coming up with this high octane family entertainer.
Director’s take: “A fun loving adventurous youngster is ready to take up challenges thrown at him by his adversaries. He chases the target with the energy of the best race horse in the world. Allu Arjun plays this young achiever. Sruthi Haasan, cast opposite him, is the daughter of a rich man (played by Prakash Raj) who brings her up in a systematic way. At the outset, she appears to be fun loving, never showing her inner turmoil. She is always cool and composed, concealing her emotions. Hers is a very interesting character.
I have watched many films of the popular Bhojpuri and Hindi cinema actor Ravi Kishan and, in fact, wanted to cast him in my earlier venture. But it materialised only now. He plays the role of a dreaded rowdy-sheeter who turns into a respectable man in order to get a clean chit to enter politics. The motive was to serve the people. He came up with a brilliant portrayal both as the bad guy and the Good Samaritan. Tamil hero Shyam whom I introduced to the Telugu audience with Kick, plays the hero’s elder brother —a pivotal character in the movie.
Thaman also started his career as a music director with Kick. We are working together after a long gap, so he took every care to give the best tunes for the songs which we shot in Italy and Switzerland. I must mention about Varikuppala Yadagiri’s catchy and soulful lyrics. He wrote three songs. Chandra Bose and Rehman wrote one each. Cinematographer Manoj Paramahamsa came up with stunning visuals especially for the song sequences. Since it is an urban subject, we shot the talkie portions in and around Hyderabad. Like the title suggests, Race Gurram is a racy entertainer for the entire family audience.”
Progress: Produced by Nallamalupu Srinivas (Bujji), the movie is now in its post production work at Ramanaidu Studios, Hyderabad. The theatrical release is planned in the first half of April.
