It is the cricket season and CSK is very much in the news with its top-notch performance. No wonder, the forthcoming Tamil film, 'CSK — Life is not a Game' seems to be getting a lot of attention. But CSK here stands for Charles Shafiq Karthiga. Playing the role of Charles is Sharran. Incidentally, in the film, he is a cricketer and aspires to play for CSK. “The film is a thriller but has many light moments,” says Sharran whose Issaki is getting ready for release, too. “In Issaki, I play a cab driver who is a victim of circumstances. There is a lot of action, drama, twists and turns,” says Sharran who is paired with Aashritha in the film. While Jai Quehaeni is Sharran’s love interest in CSK, he will be romancing Preethi Das in his next film, Uyirukku Uyiraga. “In Uyirukku Uyiraga, I play an engineering student and Prabhu plays my father. This is a family drama in which I have some great song and dance sequences. I feel Brinda master has brought out the best in me,” smiles Sharran.
Fresh angle
In the 27 movies that he has worked as a cinematographer, Priyan has used cameras of almost every available brand and model. Currently, busy completing Singam 2 , Priyan has moved from raw film stock to digital format. “The first Singam was shot entirely on film. For Singam 2 I have used the digital format for 60 per cent of the shoot while the rest was done using film. Both formats have their advantages and disadvantages. But, when I do night or rain shots I prefer digital. The digital format is also easier to work on at different levels of shoot, edit, process and post-production,” explains Priyan. He adds, as far as cameras are concerned, the average viewer’s eye will not be able to detect the subtle differences. “Only at the technical level, it is discernible and would make a difference.” Post Singam 2, Priyan is toying with the idea of directing a film.
Packed schedule
In 2012 she had two releases — Cinema Company in Malayalam and Ambuli 3D in Tamil. And actor Sanam is now gearing up to do a major Telugu film that is scheduled to release next month. Intinta Annamaya is a family entertainer from veteran director K. Raghavendra Rao. “In this modern love story, I am paired with Revanth. He is the son of Saibabu who recently produced Sri Rama Jayam starring Nayantara. There is Ananya too in this film,” says Sanam, who will next be doing a film in Tamil. Directed by Aravind Raj, the untitled film also stars singer Mano’s son Rateesh as well as Telugu actor Nitesh.
Another RGV film
Director Ram Gopal Varma is doing what he does best, making films on the underworld. In Naanthanda , he tackles the underworld through realistic portrayals by Sarvanand ( Engeyum Eppodum ). Keeping him company is Anaika as well as another beautiful face, Anjana. RGV explains the theme of his film: “In spite of the best efforts of the law-enforcing authorities, crime rate does not seem to be coming down. I think the economic and social differences are the main reasons. Crime never fades but changes its colour. I have positioned the hero as the representative of today’s generation and he ascertains his superiority be proclaiming ‘naanthanda’ every time he faces adversities.”
