Bharani, who was earlier seen in films such as Kalloori, Thoonganagaram and Nadodigal , teams up with Karunya in director V. A. Kumaresan’s Kannakol. Set against a rural backdrop, Kumaresan has developed the story based on the premise that earning and saving money is difficult, while squandering it away is easy. For Bharani, the role of a local thief holds a lot of promise. “In a locality filled with thieves of all sorts, my character has a lot of heroics built into it. There is love and there are thrills and more importantly, I have been able to showcase my versatility as an actor. The talkie portions are over and the film is into post-production. Meanwhile, I have just finalised my next project for new director Murugaya who has come up with an interesting script. This is an entertaining love story with a universal message. While it is too early to reveal much about the story, let me put it this way: Wherever you go in this country, you will travel either in an auto or a taxi. The drivers are a unique lot, speaking their own language and living a typical lifestyle, irrespective of the city they are in. My character is much the same — universal in nature, but different in outlook,” says Bharani.
Dutta makes her Tamil debut
Aishwarya Dutta from Bengal is making her debut with Nakul in the yet-to-be-titled Tamil film directed by Ramprakash Rayappa. According to her, the journey to the South has been eventful. “It’s been just over a week since I came to Chennai, subsequent to my signing this film. I am in an intensive workshop to rehearse my role as well as to learn Tamil which is important to understand the character. I must thank my coordinator, Shan, who has helped me come to Chennai, get my first Tamil role as well as an ad commercial,” says Aishwarya. Before coming to Chennai, Aishwarya has done three dance reality shows in Mumbai, a to-be-released Hindi film, Picnic, directed by Raj Mukherjee, and is about to complete a music video with playback singer Harshad Saxena for Sony Music Videos. “I have been an active part of Nrithyangan Sisters, a dance troupe which has performed in several cities and on dance reality shows,” says Aishwarya who plays a middle-class college girl in the Tamil film.
Good track record
He came into the limelight as one of the producers of Gautam Menon's Vinnaithaandi Varuvaaya . Elred Kumar then moved on to producing K. V. Anand's Ko and is at present busy making Yaan , directed by ace cinematographer Ravi K. Chandran. Elred, always on the lookout for commercially viable projects, has just announced his R. S. Infotainment's next project to be directed by K. V. Anand's associate, Deekay. Says Deekay: “I have gained tremendous experience under the late Jeeva ( Unnale Unnale and Dhaam Dhoom ) as well as with Anand, right from his first film Kana Kandaen . This has given me the confidence to strike out on my own and I am happy that I have Elred as the producer. Right now, we are finalising the cast which will be a mix of established actors and new faces. The film will be in the thriller-comedy genre.” “I have seen Deekay working on the sets of Ko and was impressed with his hard work and commitment, and when he narrated the script to me I did not hesitate to produce the film which is yet to be titled,” says Elred.
