Amala Paul

Amala Paul is a happy-go-lucky, cheerful girl in real life. “I am bindas, as they say. So when I was offered director Ramesh Varma’s Vastha Nee Venuka in Telugu with Havish in the lead, a heroine-centric film very much on the lines of the Hindi film Cocktail , I was thrilled. For once, I didn’t have to make much effort in enacting the role as I was actually playing myself!” reveals Amala. As for Tamil, the long-in-the-making Nimirndhu Nil has finally released and Amala Paul is heaving a sigh of relief. “I am happy that the film is doing well and I am awaiting the release of its Telugu version soon,” says Amala who is currently busy with the final schedule of Velaiyilla Pattathari with Dhanush. “I play a mature doctor who tries to instil some discipline in a wayward, fun-loving Dhanush. I have also signed up for director Samuthirakani’s next film, titled Kitna , in which I play an offbeat dual role. In July, I will start shooting for Laila O Laila , a Malayalam film with Mohan Lal,” says Amala.

Sethu in yet another laugh riot

When you are in the company of two well-known actors, you don't get noticed much. But, Sethu managed to make an impact when he starred alongside Santhanam and Srinivasan (Power Star) in his debut film Kanna Laddu Thinna Aasaiya. Director Sai Gokul signed him up to play the lead in his romcom Valiba Raja . “The script sounded unique and coming from a talented person like Gokul who had assisted director K. V. Anand in Ayan and Maattrraan , I felt drawn to the character. I play a complicated person who seeks the help of a psychiatrist, played by Santhanam. My parents arrange a marriage thinking that it will help me sort out my problems but I have other ideas including another girl, more modern in outlook than the one selected for me. I enlist her help to get my dream girl and in the process my life gets more complicated. Santhanam's psychiatrist firmly believes that complication plus complication will lead to clarity. You can well imagine the laugh riot that ensues in Valiba Raja ,” says Sethu. Sai Gokul points out the excellent contribution by music director Radhan in his first outing in Tamil. Visaka Singh and Nusrat play the two heroines in Valiba Raja .

Vedhika in a challenging role

Last seen in Bala’s Paradesi (2013), Vedhika went on to do a hit Malayalam film Sringaravelan opposite Dileep for director Jose Thomas. Following this, the actor has just completed all her portions in Kaaviya Thalaivan under the direction of Vasanthabalan. “Being a period film, my role has been a challenging one. But, playing it has given me a great sense of achievement. It is diametrically opposite to what I did in Paradesi,” says Vedhika who cannot reveal much about the character she plays in the film. “As for my next move, I have signed a couple of films each in Tamil and Malayalam, but it is a bit too early to talk about them. Let the producers make the announcement first,” states Vedhika.
