Could there be a person who can make you laugh about his heart attack? Meet veteran actor Delhi Ganesh, who had me rolling on the studio floor laughing, as he narrated his experience in a hospital. You’d normally think that such a situation would be rather tense, but while we were gearing up for the photo shoot, he narrated how he was passing comments about everyone around him, including the doctor. Eventually, the conversations veered towards his roles, especially in Kamal’s films. About playing villain in Aboorva Sahodarargal , he said, “Kamal needed someone who would stab him in the back, and he chose me. Could I refuse him?” His role as Kameshwaran’s father, Palakaatu Mani Iyer, is another crowd-favourite. He started talking about all the puns in those dialogues, and again, we found it difficult to concentrate on the shoot, what with all the laughing. For the photograph, I wanted him to enact a scene. We chose the role of Sethurama Iyer from Avvai Shanmugi . We brought the jasmine, and the drama began. In moments, he had us in splits and the photo was ready. In between somewhere, when talking about his wife, he said, “I might earn a decent sum in the movie business, but my wife stills insists on my doing a government job, as she believes only that will save her in the future.”
