Sundattam

What it is about…

Sundattam is a movie based on the board game carrom, which is popular especially in North Chennai. The audio was released recently in the presence of the film’s unit. Irfan and new-find Arundhathi play the hero and the heroine. The film has been written and directed by Brahma G Dev. Britto has composed the music and Aachu of Maalai Pozhudhin Mayakathilae fame, the background score.

Music highlights

There are six songs of which one, ‘Nethiyilae,’ has been composed by S. N. Arunagiri. Written by Gaana Viji, it is sung by Kaali. Britto has composed the rest of the songs. Na. Muthukumar’s lyrics in the song ‘Adi Unnale,’ sung by Karthik, stand out. ‘Narumugaye,’ written by Snehan, is a beautiful duet by Alapraju and Madhubala. While the music director himself has written and sung ‘Kan Kondu’, a short number, Ranjith, Madhu and Roshini come together for ‘Vizhyil Vithai,’ again written by Britto. ‘Kadhal Varum Varai’ is a pleasant number by Saindhavi.

What they say…

Producer R. Annadurai: I am basically an architect and interior decorator. I turned to film production for the sake of my daughter, Nithya, a visual communication student. I am glad Sundattam has come out well. Director Brahma G. Dev: The story, set in the Nineties, revolves around the board game carrom. Shooting the film in a metro like Chennai was difficult. It was a challenge to create the vintage atmosphere coupled with costumes and roads befitting that period. All of us have put in our best and I hope Sundattam clicks with filmgoers.

Hero Irfan: I entered the industry with the hope of becoming an assistant director, but have ended up as an actor. My performance in Kana Kaanum Kalangal, a serial on Vijay TV, was appreciated. Pattalam, a Linguswamy production, was my first feature film. I followed it up with Eppadi Mansukkul Vandhai. I am eagerly awaiting the release of Sundattam.

Music director Britto: I came to Chennai to study, but got interested in scoring music. I have done some work for Vijay TV and Mega TV. I have composed half-a-dozen jingles and as many as 25 short films. Sundattam is my first feature film.
